Whenever I reintroduce eggs into my diet I gain weight. They are delicious and great for you, but this is my problem. I have odd digestive issues (alternating) and have gained nearly 10lbs in 4 months, which is abnormal. The only thing I have added is eggs. What gives?
I love eggs. I think they are great for my diet.I even snack on hard-boiled eggs. But that's me. What I am coming around to believe is that each one of us has certain singularities, which means that we have to experiment a bit with what works for us and what does not work for us.
For instance, for me, eating cheese, causes weight gain. When I avoid it, I start to lose weight. If I eat in moderate amounts, I will maintain, if I overdo it, I will gain weight. And I am talking about a beautiful local semi-cured goat cheese made from raw milk, salt and rennet.
So to sum up, if it happens to you, it happens to you. Take note of it and eat accordingly.
Egg white intolerance is fairly common, and if your body doesn't like something, it's response is to elevate cortisol and histamine to combat the substance it isn't tolerating well. When cortisol is elevated, or inflammation is present, you will retain more water and weight.
As much as I like eggs, they are not integral to eating paleo, and if I had similar experiences I wouldn't hesitate to try different breed eggs such as duck or quail, and if those also caused a reaction, I would eliminate them altogether.
I have a friend that used to get really bad gas and bloating from eggs specifically. I suggested he eat just the yolks and the issues were less severe but still occurred. He eliminated eggs completely and solved the problem.
Eggs not only irritate my stomach and my skin, but they also help me to gain weight. I have had to eliminate them except for the rare occasion b/c I think I have developed some sort of allergic response to them. It is unfortunate because they're so quick and easy to prepare.
