I have severe stomach pain two hours after eating. My recent food history is: I removed refined sugar from my diet two months ago. I then bought a breadmaker and flour mill and have since been making my own whole wheat bread. (love it)
Then I introduced alot of fruits and veggies into my diet and reduced some fatty foods as well. Up until 3 weeks ago, things were great. I felt great, no sugar withdrawals and lots of energy, UNTIL...... BAM..... Major stomach aches.
I played with my diet for awhile and it seems, even now, that a little fat in my food causes the problem. If I only eat fruits, veggies and soaked whole grain rice, everything is fine.
I finally broke down and went to the doctor and tests were conducted. I thought maybe I had gallstones or gallbladder/liver problems, but it seems that theses organs are fine. I thought maybe that I am gluten intolerant or have celiac disease - I am waiting on results for this. Maybe I have been always gluten intolerant but only to a minor degree BUT now that I make my own bread, I add extra gluten to the bread making process to help the bread rise. (maybe the extra gluten brought the gluten disease to the forefront. Not sure
Anyway, while I wait on more results, I broke down and picked up digestive enzymes and "anti-gas" pills. As long as I don't over eat, these pills almost totally stops the pain. Please.... is there someone out there who can give some insight into my problem.
Drop the bread completely (and anything with gluten in it for 2 weeks) and you will know if you are gluten sensitive or not. No need for testing.
That's what I did & my digestion completely normalized.
I agree! Drop the bread, pasta, barley . . . . anything with gluten! It will take a few weeks but you will definately tell a difference. Also, reduce the dairy. If you are still feeling sick to the stomach after 3 weeks of gluten free, go GRAIN free and avoid the legumes too (for another 3 weeks). Hey, if it doesn't work for you, you can always go back to the stuff you were eating, but my guess is GLUTEN INTOLERANCE!
Thanks for your responses. I have been gluten free for 2 weeks now and in that time I have had only 1/2 cup of 2 % milk in my organic corn flakes. (I only bought and ate the organic corn flakes because I thought my body needed something familar. I've lost 8 pounds in the last week and I wanted to try a put back on some weight with "healthier" foods I ate before.) My diet consists now of bananas, strawberries, blueberries, different juices, salads, 2 eggs at a time (with only one yolk), oats, organic brown rice, chicken, yogurt, cottage cheese (help with the weight lose), I just started with tofu (may drop that because of the phytic acid - just discovered this), 1/2 cup of lean ground beef at a time, fish, peppers, A few other foods, and last but not least anti-gas pills and digestive enzymes. I will be slowly eliminating the pills from my diet over the next few weeks. I also read that it could take anywhere from 6 months to two years for my stomach to heal if I have damaged it because of gluton intolerance or celiac. I will keep posting with updates. Thanks all.
I had the same problem.I started with eliminating grains, dairy and I got it.I became lactose intolerate like 65% of our population in older age.Just eliminate any soft cheeses, half& half, milk, milk chocolate.Hard cheses and goat cheese are OK..Do some research what contains lactose. Maybe lactose bothers your stomach. Some medical sources say with lactose intolerance comes sensitivity for gluten. It help me ,so experiment with food. I don't know why doctors don't tell about lactose intolerance if such huge percentage of people suffers from that. Good luck.
Thanks for the responses. After a few months of "playing" with my diet, I discovered the problem - it was too much fiber!!! I am now back eating gluten and drinking small amounts of milk and I feel good. No more pain. About the only side effect to this healthier eating is that I have trouble getting up to my 155 lbs that I once was. I think this is due to the elimination of processed sugars in my diet. I don't mind being a little lighter but because I am working a construction, I have to eat alot!!!!! If not, my weight starts dropping off. I guess it's a great problem to have... eat 3 lbs of food and only put on 2 lbs of weight..... Life's good.....
