Hey guys.... I understand I need minimal amount of carbs but I don't know if I want to go into full ketosis. Although I am trying to lose weight I think that having at least 50g of carbs would benefit me. The only source of carbs I am currently getting is from broccoli and some other veggies. I know for a fact I am getting under 20g of carbs a day.

Can you guys help me out to help me some foods I can eat to help raise my carb intake some?

How much will it effect my weight loss by starting to eat 50-80g of carbs a day?

I've done quite well on the weight loss front eating 80-100g of rice and sweet potatoes a day. I'm not much of a fruit fan, but some of the lower fructose fruits (especially berries) would work great as well for increasing carbs.

Thanks... yeah I think im just going to go with brown rice and some sweet potatoes. – Derrick Mar 11 2012 at 21:49
The folks who do paleo and rice tend to go with white rice, since the bran contains the phytic acid (which can bind to minerals meaning you won't absorb them). The WAPF folks soak/sprout/ferment their rice to deactivate the phytic acid. It's probably not a big huge deal either way, but I eat white rice. – Beth-WeightMaven Mar 11 2012 at 23:57

Sweet potatoes and potatoes are good.

I find it easier to lose weight when my carbs are between 60-70gm/day.

You need to play around & see what works best for you. We all have very different metabolisms and activity levels.

Eat more broccoli? And some other veggies? Or throw in a piece of fruit?

My go-to non-starchy carbs are leafy salads and grapefruit. My starchy carbs are usually bananas and converted rice. I don't respond as well to white/sweet potatoes although rutabagas are great.

I'd increase very gradually--you'll probably feel good things happen when you hit your personal groove.
