For the last 15 years or so Doctors, Dietitians - fitness trainers and the like have pushed a low fat high carb diet onto everyone and I fell for it hook line and sinker - only to develop insulin resistance and become overweight- when before I was doing just fine on what my mother taught me!

I was speaking to a fitness trainer who also claims to be a diet consultant - who started doing her rant to me on having whole grain and pushing food high in sugar but low in fat onto me - I declined her advice and told her why - she has known my diet for a while and really thinks its wrong. Now if I was giving out advice all the time professionally - I would make sure I was bang up to date with everything - even if I did not agree with it.

So yes I am angry and all the doctors and such for telling me to follow a LFHC diet - but at what point do you think people are going to be able to turn this around and make them become accountable for wrong advice - not just for weight loss but for Cholesterol and the REST!

I should say - I am open to think that Paleo is not the only way to live - its right for some not all but the whole grain and sugar debate and body of evidence is so overwhelming and convincing - why do we have to fight all the time to be healthy??

It will simply slowly morph into accurate information

Oh, not all fat is bad, trans fat is the real culprit

We found THESE carbs are bad

By the way, we found another good fat...

Oh look, NON processed red meat IS good, it's the processing that made it bad

Etc etc etc

We won't see wholesale change until the wheat/corn/soy industry stops running the world

I wish, but I think that may be optimistic. Big pharma is more interested in expensive chronic treatment than it is in healthy eating that can't be patented. Why would they want you healthier? That would kill their income source big time. – Eva Sep 19 2010 at 11:51

When will health practioners be held accountable? I'd say never. They've been doing similar kinds of stupid things for hundreds of years. Remember the leaches? Did anyone ever hold them accountable for the leaches? When Pasteur first came up with his theory on germs and how to prevent small pox, the rest of the medical community mercilessly bashed him as a crackpot who saw 'invisible monsters.' What really happens is the present generation of doctors will die off and the newer ones will blame every problem that comes up on the old generation and they will then say 'but we're smarter now so listen to us instead.' And the merry go round just continues on.. -Eva

True, has happened throughout history. Change happens because the old generation dies off. Read 'The Structure of Scientific Revolutions'. – NomadicNeill Sep 17 2010 at 11:01

First, save yourself. By saving yourself you save the world. Be grateful that you have found this web and all related. When your signature changes to notsonewtopaleo you too will be part of the solution.

First, save yourself. Then help anyone who reaches out for it. – vmary Sep 18 2010 at 0:54

Like Stephen says there will be two parts to it.

On one hand there will be a gradual shift and no one will ever remember that it was any other way. The experts will forget they even gave any other kind of advice. Forget getting any kind of "I told you so" satisfaction.

The other part of the equation is that it will stop when there is more money to be made in the new way of doing things than the old way.

You think these kinds of things are ruled by logic and reason? LOL

+1 on Stephen's comment.

Grains run the world, and there isn't enough paleo food to go around. Personally, I think it will be a LONG time!

IMO the steps would have to be as follows: Solve poverty, solve greed, solve diet.
