I'm 29, slim build, paleo plus kerrigold for 9 months. I also have many symptoms of low thyroid... -Fatigue -Weakness -Rough pale skin -Cold intolerance (I have really cold hands and feet) -Muscle cramps and frequent muscle aches (restless leg syndrome) -Constipation -Depression -Irritability -Memory loss -Decreased libido

Is it worth a shot to get tested?

Have you taken your temp for a few wks - basal temp first thing in the morning before you get up.

Get a glass thermometer, not digital (the digital ones stop reading after a minute or two and are not as accurate). Non-mercury glass thermometers are now commercially available at Walgreen’s and other pharmacies (if you have trouble locating a mercury thermometer).

Shake down the thermometer the night before you do the test (using your muscles to shake the thermometer will raise your temperature and throw off the test).

Normal axillary body temperature is between 97.4 and 98.2 degrees Fahrenheit. Temperatures below that are suggestive of low thyroid.

Ah yes, suggestive they. Low body temperature can by "suggestive" of low thyroid and several other things. It can be a good scene that perhaps, maybe something is up. However, it could also be pretty normal. Testing is the way to go with thyroid. – No more. Mar 14 2012 at 22:12

Yes.

Everything sounds hypothyroid except you are slim. That is just one explanation. You want a doc that knows thyroid and adrenals both, and knows what hormones to use if you need something. Get tested with guidance from a doc like that and you at least will know what you are dealing with.

Things to look for: -Will they test T3 and not just TSH? -Will they check cortisol, and or testosterone/progesterone? -Do they treat fatigue as well as thyroid, or just dismiss it?

It wouldn't hurt to load up on vitamin D and B.

Good luck!

Do you really want to know or to just suspect? If you really want to know T3 & T4 (free and bound), Reverse T3, TSH, & Thyroid antibodies. That will unquestionably tell you the health of your thyroid gland.
