I'm currently on an elimination diet and tried bertolli extra virgin olive oil yesterday. (I know, it's not the most trustworthy brand)
This experiment resulted in severe diarrhea. Strangely, olive oil is actually not a common food allergen.
Does anybody have an idea, what's wrong with me or the olive oil?
PS: I'm allergic to dairy and soy. Maybe the oil was somehow cross contaminated? Well, it's extra virgin they say...
Beware of fake olive oil.

Turns out, I've always been very salicylate sensitive. Olive oil is a big trigger for me - right up there with strawberries, tomatoes and most herbs/spices. Explains a lot of my childhood illnesses ;)
Just a heads up, not every person will react the same way to the same foods/products. And, for me, it changes depending on how much I've taken in and what I've been exposed to in that time - my symptoms vary in severity.
I was on elimination diet (due to gluten intolerance) and I have an adverse reaction to olive oil as well (not as bad as yours though). I also have gastric erosion so I thought it might be related somehow.
The extra virgin olive oil I used was certified organic and my friend brought it from Greece, from his uncle's store, so I know it is organic for sure.
I have also tried five other oils, including coconut extra virgin, and my body reacts funny to all of them.
I do not know what to think. It is a mystery to me. Can you try other oils and tell me if you have the same reaction? Is it only olive oil or do you have the same reaction for other oils as well? Would be interesting to know!
Also make sure the olive oil you bought was in a glass bottle because there is evidence that olive oil significantly leaches plastic from the bottle. There is also a strong difference in taste between a glass bottle olive oil and a plastic bottle. But the salicylic is also a probable cause and eating straight like I do makes me nauseous.
I too had a problem with eating food prepared with evoo....strong cramps and diarrhea too. I also tried coconut oil in a sauted dish...same thing. I'm glad to know other folks have experienced this too. I don't have any food allergies or medical allergies either. So, I just avoid these two oils...simple.
I have very severe reactions to olive oil, including severe diarrhoea when I ingest it and a nasty eczema when it's applied to my skin. Some years ago I became so sick with intractable diarrhoea and bleeding that I was mistakenly diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. It's so difficult to contend with the very pervasive 'propaganda' that surrounds olive oil. We are constantly being told that it is such a wonderful healthy product, and therefore it's really hard to get anyone to believe that it can be harmful (at least to some people). Because of this it took me quite a while to make the connection, but I finally realised that it was olive oil causing my problems, and that if I strictly avoided it my gastrointestinal problems completely disappeared. I told my (then) doctor about this, and to my surprise he replied "no, that's not possible – I have never seen any reports stating that olive oil causes those sort of problems". He flatly refused to believe me, so it's no wonder that the harmful effects of olive oil are virtually unknown.
We now use only peanut oil, rice bran oil and macadamia nut oil in our house, and I am fine with all of these. The big problem is that olive oil has become so popular that its very hard to avoid it when you eat out. So not only Mediterranean-style restaurants, but anything that even remotely considers itself "up-market", are now a big risk for me. On a couple of occasions I have been promised an"olive oil-free meal" at these places, only to have a bad reaction afterwards, probably because of the inadvertent use of something in their kitchen contaminated with olive oil.
