I'm hosting a chocolate party tomorrow, and decided to make my dishes 99% paleo to wow the guests. But I've only got 4 hours of free time to get the ingredients and make the dishes. I'm thinking of making two dishes. Any suggestions? Here's what I've thought of so far:

-Chocolate truffles with coconut oil and ground macademia (made before, turns out pretty good)

-Chocolate cinnamon coconut milk (I just made this up)

-Some kind of flourless chocolate cake (probably takes too long?)

-Some kind of chocolate pudding with coconut milk

-Some kind of chocolate/avocado dish

It took a couple times before the chocolate truffles came out good. So if you have already made something yummy that is chocolate and paleo, then it would be pre-screened. Do tell.

Flourless choc cake is super easy and fast: epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/… Can be made ahead of time to, it's a really perfect one for entertaining. – Hannah Sep 18 2010 at 21:40
I make chocolate cake with just eggs and cocoa. It's amazing, especially filled with cream and fruit. Check my blog (I'm using my iPod from my sick bed - sorry I can't post links). – Girl Gone Primal Sep 18 2010 at 22:39
Chocolate cake with just eggs and cocoa?? Ok I'm going to go look for that :) Thank you! – Kat Sep 20 2010 at 16:50
Here's what I ended up making: avocado chocolate pudding (not a hit, probably not dessert-y enough), flourless chocolate cake (success), cinnamon chocolate coconut milk (success). The coconut milk was put in a slow cooker on low, then I added cinnamon, allspice, heavy cream, cocoa powder, and blended briefly with an immersion blender. – Kamal Sep 20 2010 at 16:57
Thanks everybody! – Kamal Sep 20 2010 at 16:57

What about the standard avocado-chocolate pudding recipe? I've seen variations with and without banana. I'm not sure if you're using dairy but it could be presently nicely in dessert glasses with homemade whipped cream/coconut cream. http://www.freecoconutrecipes.com/recipe_Chocolate_Avocado_Pudding.htm

Also found a chocolate-avocado pie recipe that looks interesting. You could most likely sub any nuts for the pecan-based crust and use real dark chocolate instead of vegan chocolate chips. http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=6811.0

A chocolate coconut custard in individuals ramekins would be delicious as well. http://dandysugar.com/recipes/baked-chocolate-coconut-milk-custards-with-cinnamon-cream

I've been making Girl Gone Primal's Choc-Avocado Mousse for the last couple months but I add more cinnamon and lots of shredded coconut. I don't really measure so I might be putting in more cocoa powder, too. I have added honey but it's not necessary and, some might say, not paleo.

Beat me to it ;) I've been adding coconut to it too, though it completely changes the consistency away from a creamy dessert to more of a baked-esque food, so I find it less interesting visually when presenting to guests. There are more chocolatey recipes on my blog too - just go to the recipe index. The chocolatey date & nuts balls would be my next suggestion (look up apricot & walnut balls, etc). – Girl Gone Primal Sep 18 2010 at 22:36
Thanks for your stuff, GGP. (OT: My daughter has been taking belly dance classes for several years and loves it.) – ScottMGS Sep 19 2010 at 1:47

Not orthodox paleo, but I made a very simple molten lava cake for company last week, and it was amazing (and impressive)! I found the recipe on the Healthy Indulgences blog:

http://healthyindulgences.blogspot.com/2009/01/healthy-molten-chocolate-cake_10.html

I tweaked the recipe a little, cutting out the erythritol and and using coconut flour (since coconut flour is so much more absorbent than other flours, I cut the 4 tsp called for in half). Definitely err on the side of undercooking this one. 10 minutes was plenty in my oven. Any longer, and you lose the "lava" inside.

I used Lindt 85% and and topped the warm cake with raspberries before serving.

My husband keeps asking when I'm going to make it again. :)

If anyone knows of a good avocado-based chocolate dessert, please share - that sounds wonderful!! – Kimmie Sep 18 2010 at 21:05
Sweet baby jesus, that looks good! I'm going to check if my local Whole Foods has coconut flour. – Kamal Sep 18 2010 at 21:24
OMG! That's going on my list of things to try! – ScottMGS Sep 18 2010 at 21:42
