Is there anything I can use to substitute plam oil or palm shortening when a recipe calls for these?

You can get high quality palm shortening (certified organic, non-hydrogenated). It is flavorless and scentless -- unlike unrefined palm oil -- and can therefore be used for more types of cooking. I don't like palm oil's flavor. So palm shortening is very appealing. |

You can substitute ... palm oil. Just make sure it's unrefined and absolutely sure it's not hydrogenated. Avoid the shortening, stick with the oil. If you must replace it, coconut oil should work in place of palm oil, depending on what you are making.
