http://emsoninc.com/Super-Wave-Oven

It's a Groupon deal today, and it seems like it'd be awesomely awesome in helping me to prepare my paleo meals, but I can't figure out from the info online whether it's my style. One big question I have is what is it made of?? I don't cook with plastic or teflon -- is this anything more than glass and stainless steel?

Or does anybody have any other positives or negatives to this or similar appliances? As far as I can tell, it looks like it'd save time, dishes, AND help me w.homemade jerky.

Thanks!

I love that you and Craig asked nearly the same question almost instantaneously. ;) But I'm interested in the answers, as this would be perfect to have as a college student next year. – OddBallin Mar 20 2012 at 18:40

Infrared (and microwaves) are relatively low-energy radiation, neither have any significant effect on chemical structures of your food. Chemistry starts happening more often on the UV end of the electromagnetic spectrum. So your oven should be fine.

I have the Nuwave oven which is very similar http://www.amazon.com/Nuwave-20322-Digital-Controlled-Infrared-Tabletop/dp/B000KGTXFW

got it for Xmas from mom -- At first I was like - great just what I need another huge kitchen item that I have no where to store, But the nuwave has proved it be very helpful and efficient. I must admit it is often used for my kids SAD diet items like pizza rolls and nuggets :-(

If I was a single gal again I think I would love it and use it everyday. Doesn't heat up the kitchen and seems less trouble to clean (most of the time)

We have done whole cut up raw fryer chickens in the Nuwave and they come out surprisingly tender and juicy. It really can do frozen meat as it claims.

cooking for a whole family? no would not recommend - but for a single or couple it can be used in a surprising amount out ways. If you get one, definitely watch the videos that come with it to brainstorm all the things that are possible.

I have something very similar http://products.mercola.com/turbo-oven/. As long as you make sure that the bowl and lid are glass, you should be fine. I know there are some models out there that have plastic bowls, and I wouldn't use one of those to cook food for my dog, because if -I- can smell the hot plastic, I -know- it's offgassing into my food -- but I LOVE my glass-bowl one, and even take it traveling with me, so I can cook in the hotel room!

I also have a nuwave oven, and while it is mostly plastic i have never once smelled plastic while cooking. They have come a long way with the plastics they use in these types of products!

I was given it as a wedding gift and thought the same thing as OSUfanz, great what am i supposed to do with this, BUT I have used it so many times I have lost count!

Counter top "ovens" like that are super helpful

I've been using it since I got it back in october. Was looking for recipes to make jerky with it, and saw this post. Only thing I can tell you is not to have items so big it touches the sides. You need the air to circulate to cook properly. When you have a small area to cook and no oven, this thing is great. It seems you can use the nuwave oven recipes if you can't find sharper image ones. I'll be trying drying vegeys next

Its all glass and metal. I ordered one and the first one that came in the fan was DOA, so it basically melted down on the first try. Made in china down by the river quality right there. Hope you have good homeowners insurance.
