I thought I had found a good, convenient source for paleo takeout/delivery - a Persian kebab restaurant. Basically hunks of meat, chicken, or fish on a skewer.

All well and good until Thursday night when I'm pretty sure the ground beef and salmon kebabs I ordered were somehow bad. It's three days later and I'm still afraid to eat.

I'm just trying to think of a way I can start eating again without it coming back out one way or another so quickly.

(I could continue fasting, but three days is a little much!)

Here is what's in my shopping basket when I have a problem like this: canned pumpkin, chicken and beef stock, bananas, and apple sauce. I learned about the pumpkin from a dog trainer, who told me to use it when my dog was sick. I tried it on myself and it really stops things from passing through you. I usually mix the pumpkin with the stock as a soup. Bananas and applesauce are part of the BRAT(Bananas Rice Applesauce Toast) protocol my mother always followed when us kids were sick. I threw out the rice and toast. Bananas and applesauce work fine.

Yeah, I recently followed a modified BRAT for my toddler, but I've personally been avoiding a ton of fruit. I guess I can make an exception :) – Casey Sep 19 2010 at 21:26

Thanks for the pumpkin idea. My little one is having some gasto-distress, and though I loathe the idea, I have been giving him some rice cereal which has helped a lot. I have found apples to worsen diarrhea in my other children, and bananas just have so much sugar I couldn't bring myself to try them. I'll try the pumpkin tonight. – Ambimorph Sep 19 2010 at 21:28

I think other squashes would work too. Butternut, zucchini, etc. – Bread-Eating Beelzebub Sep 19 2010 at 21:41

Pumpkin is famous for slowing and firming the stools. Plus it is very bland and easy on the stomach and intestines. – Eva Sep 20 2010 at 2:34
So I tried some bananas and applesauce last night and so far so good. Didn't get the opportunity to try anything with squash/pumkin, but I'll definitely try that next time someone in our house gets a stomach-related illness. Thanks! – Casey Sep 20 2010 at 15:46

Do you know for sure what poisoned you? They say it can take up to 36 hours after ingestion for illness to occur.

My wife and I shared a dinner from the restaurant, and we both got will the next morning. We think it was one of my kabobs, since I seem to be staying sicker longer - she was pretty much better the next day, fully better the day after - while mine was lingering. And she got sick because all of our kabobs were in the same box. – Casey Sep 20 2010 at 13:51

Have you ever tried healing clay? Just stir 1 teasppon of healing clay in a glass of water and drink. It assists in the removal of toxic substances in the digestive system.

I think by the time I source it and have it delivered I'll have already recovered. I'll just hope I don't need it in the future :) – Casey Sep 20 2010 at 13:51
Healing earth is always im my Medicine cabinet - since about 20 years... In Germany you can buy it in every pharmacy or drug store. – Kikilula Sep 20 2010 at 17:47

I always fast, but you've already done that. I do find personally, somewhat counterintuitively, that simple egg dishes like scrambled egg or omelettes, are easy on my stomach

I made eggs for my son on Sunday and boy did they look good, but I was still too scared to try to put anything like that in my stomach. – Casey Sep 20 2010 at 15:44
