My goal is to be a walking example instead of being evangelistic about it.
Me and my girlfriend started around the same time almost 5 months ago following Kurt Harris' Archevore Diet. I usually avoid the word "paleo" and when folks ask what I'm doing (I've lost almost 60 pounds, so a few have noticed) I tell them that I've simply cut out gluten grains and processed foods in exchange for whole foods, good meats and fats, safe starches, etc. I just try to be low-key about it and so far I've gotten quite a few questions from several people who seem interested.
Now about my one BIG "convert" so far:
The person I've had the most conversation with about all of it is my mom, who likes to talk about recipes and food stuff in general. She's been more curious than anyone else, and I just recently realized that she's apparently been in "contemplation" mode, because she just called me this past Thursday to tell me that SHE GAVE UP WHEAT! Then, she called me back yesterday to tell me that she has lost 5 pounds in 4 days and can't believe how awesome she feels. She says her head feels clearer, she has more energy, pretty much all the good stuff we're all familiar with.
In the same conversation she also said something like "if you get X food at Y restaurant you have no way of knowing how it was cooked". This tells me that some of our casual conversations have led to her looking things up on her own. Yay mom :)
Needless to say I'm excited for her, but I'm even more excited because she stays in closer contact or gets along with a lot of our family better than I do. She'll be much better at spreading the word to them than I would, and I'm really glad she's taking action for herself. I told my girlfriend a couple months ago that if I could just get my mom onboard...
