What are some foods I can consume to increase the amount of calories I get in a day? I already know I can eat eggs, butter, coconut oil, avocado etc. What are other things that I wouldn't have thought of that I can eat?

If you're eating butter (and I would assume other dairy), whole milk or heavy cream is a good option. It's basically nature's version of a protein shake - high calorie, high fat, easy to down in large quantities. It's especially excellent if you're lifting heavy and looking to bulk up. |

Anything fatty, since fat has about 9 calories per gram and protein and carbs have about 4. Coconut butter is great; It's way better than coconut oil or other nut butters. Also you should eat copious amounts of good quality steak. The protein will help you build muscles and the fat is good for calories. If you just care about calories you should eat more fat and eat more often. Try snacking on nuts in between meals. Can I ask why you are looking for more calories? It's not the typical request here. If you have a specific goal in mind I'm sure people could give you more targeted advice. |

Have you thought about combining the foods? I was putting generous helpings of butter, ghee, or red palm oil on whatever meat I was eating. During the winter this is much easier. As summer temperatures approach things melt quicker, so I shall have to be more careful. I've also done the dreaded saturated fat/sugar combination in the form of medjool dates, pastured butter, and flakes of pure chocolate. I cannot testify as to the long term consequences of such eating, but it did push me up to the top end of my weight range and tended to keep me more hungry throughout the day- so I tended to eat more as a consequence. I was more than a little worried though, about my teeth, and will always worry about insulin spikes, no matter what the professionals tell me. But man, that stuff tastes good! |

If you're trying to add calories in a hurry, I've seen some pretty massively caloric (but healthy and nutritious) smoothies, starting off with a can of coconut milk. I know smoothies aren't super popular around here, but it's another way to infuse fat/calories, if you're having trouble eating enough calories. |
