Paleo good fortune - what did you experience today or this week? Did you find a sale on kerrygold butter? Find a new source for pastured eggs? Set a new record on a lift?

This is a thread to report those things. Whether it is something last week, this week or tomorrow or in the future...

It feels odd to call this "paleo," since it's very agricultural, but this week my tomato, pepper, basil, and kale seedlings sprouted in record time thanks to the chicken manure "tea" fertilizer I concocted from my lovely hens. We'll be eating well this summer!

I also hit a personal best on shoulder press this Wednesday which was pretty rad.

I am very, very sedentary and actually did a body weight workout yesterday. I feel like I am about to start a new habit :)

Not today, but yesterday I found a stack of grass-fed ribeyes and NY strips on "manager's special" for $6.99/lb. After calling the supplier to make sure they were 100% grass-fed, I bought them all. My usual supplier charges quite a bit more, so it was a great day! I was up by my school, which is heavily hippie-granola-vegan, so it's no surprise they weren't popular.

You're giving me a new appreciation for vegans :) If only more of them would move to my neighborhood, I could have all the meat to myself! – Joseph S. Aug 27 at 2:56

I bought beef liver for the first time from a very friendly grass-fed beef farmer at the farmer's market yesterday. He convinced me that I would be able to cook it and that I would be glad I tried, and I am very grateful for that!

Nice! I am still working up courage to try liver. – coffeeandcream Apr 22 2012 at 14:17

This past week, I tried sardines and almond butter for the first time (not together!) Major hooray!

Sardines in marinara sauce baked with eggs on top, or in olive oil on a big lovely salad, and granny smith apple slices with almond butter for dip. These will now be regular rotations in my Primal menu.

If you like nut butters and sardines, try mixing tahini and sardines together like a tuna salad. Pop in some diced onions and celery for crunch. – Dan Aug 27 at 4:15

All in one day I resisted the pastry machine at an agency I visit almost weekly, and then when I got home my roommate offered me some fresh-from-the-bakery doughnut holes---I resisted those, too! It's not that I normally eat that stuff, but I was really craving some sweet carbs for a day or so and saying no to those items wasn't easy! I resisted and immediately felt like Wonder Woman's gran for the rest of the day!!!

It's always worth it to say no when you know you should say no. Congrats. – Dan Aug 27 at 4:17

I have not been on super strict Paleo but have increased protein consumption and dark leafy veg consumption, while lowering grain and white potato consumption.

My outer eyebrows started to fall out since PCOS manifested it self last year. I was on low G.I. for 7 months with no improvement. Just noticed the new regrowth before my waxing appointment this week, which is about a month into Paleo.

Our roommate who has been living with us for two months has noticed a difference too. He's now complaining he has to shave his face every day instead of once a week, lol.

I just started getting my hair cut regularly for the first time in my life. I have been on a 4 week schedule to start out with for about 3 months now. A coworker commented Friday that my hair grew really really fast, and I was only 1 week late for my appointment (and I don't even have a short or technical cut that would make easily it noticeable).

The slow cooker I recently purchased has become my best friend.

Also bought grass fed beef liver for the first time this week too. Gonna lightly brown it, and put it in a slow cooker with onions. Heard it is the most tender and the best this way.

Also made a new friend at work, who is now my secret source of Kale. She's vegan, and thought I was vegan too at first because of the emphasis I placed on green vegetables, lol.

Lots of good fortune this week. I also found out there's a crossfit gym in town. They are across the street from the butcher I've been getting meat from, isn't that a coincidence?

Also signed up with a work health initiative to lose some weight. Roommate said he'd run with me which is awesome. It' s also starting to finally cool down enough to run outside!

Great question! Paleo hacks practicing a bit of esoteric gratitude. Most excellent!

Perfect timing as I wanted an outlet to GUSH about the free offal I scored at the markets on the weekend. Show an interest in a local, grass-fed and highly conscientious farmer and his boutique stall, and prepare to be lavished with primal delights!

Namely One huge Angus tongue

and

The best bones for broth i've EVER got my grubby/bloody paws on

The bones were all marrow and joint - the tallow i've got from them is fit for a lean, paleo King and the gelatin...oh the gelatin! (Is it wrong to be this excited over cross-linked collagen?!)

Cooked up the tongue last night. Brillo.

Was also gifted some pastured eggs at the same markets, simply for being super nosy and quizzing the supplier on the empowerment of his chickens, and the like. Pays to engage with your farmers!

End paleo gratitude.

Beef tongue. Oh yeah, you are speaking my language. My friends refuse to try it, but it's one of my favorite parts of the cow. – Varelse Aug 27 at 3:26

Glad I have somewhere to share this!

My good fortune came when my brother, who has seen my success, approached me and asked about my way of eating. He is finally ready to conquer his own digestive issues!

Two good things this week.

  1. Trader Joe's has coconut oil in stock again, and it's going fast.

  2. I rode my bicycle 94 miles, in fairly hilly conditions, without having to stop and eat. I had no idea I could do such a thing. I just never got hungry or started to lose energy.

$0.99 Bags of mixed greens salad! It needs to be eaten the day you buy it but still a score.

I have successfully started living off of bare essentials in my new house as I'm now unemployed. Unfortunately, it involves too much non paleo stuff, but I'm able to manage a weight of ~130+(138 two days ago) off of 4-5 dollars a day. Eggs and 2-3 dollar a pound meats and kale and the occasional treat of free beer(argh) and avocados and stuff.

Navigated several food-centric social events without compromising my whole30, or even feeling like I wanted to eat the junk. I also climbed a bunch of stairs yesterday without even thinking about it, compared to just a few months ago when I would be huffing, puffing, totally out of breath, heart racing by the time I dragged myself to the top. Not being sickly all the time feels good :)

I got my first CSA bag ever this week! And because of this, I had rainbow chard for the first time and LOVED it.

EDIT: Now I have given Brussels sprouts a try for the first time since the terrible, frozen and boiled things with Velveeta on them that my mom tried to make me eat as a kid. Winner! I cooked them with sweet potatoes on the grill underneath the pork shoulder for dripping goodness. It's been really fun expanding my vegetable horizons.
