Can anyone help me with my new little purple friend? What can I do to make this go away faster? I know that it'll fade with time and disappear by itself but do you know any secret tips of your grandmas? I wonder if any kind of paleo food/herbs could possibly help me with treatment. I just wish to go out somewhere cause it's getting more and more sunny but I look like home crime victim...:|

This is why God invented concealer. – Renee Mar 23 2012 at 15:18

I usually try a combination of the above techniques plus a few more:

-Rub out the bruise with a warm clean cloth soaked in green tea (the caffeine can reduce puffiness, also works if you have been crying) and rest between sets with a cold compress. Be gentle with the rubbing as you don't want to cause more skin trauma, it's more like a little massage.

-When you are done rubbing for awhile, treat the area with witch hazel (I like rose thayers witch hazel with aloe and rosewater)

-Use moisturizing cream at night with vitamin e to keep that thin skin membrane intact.

-In the meantime, think up a fun story (such as rescuing some virgin coconut oil from a hoarde of angry wheat stalks and oozing soybean warriors) slap on some concealer and get out there.

AND LEAVE THE BASTARD!!! lol just kidding!!!!

That is an incredibly uniformly even shiner!

The best cure for all bruises is to alternate hot and cold. Use wet washcloths in plastic baggies, keep one in the freezer and warm one up. Alternate each for 10 minutes.

The heat will bring blood to the surface, and the cold will drive it away - by alternating you are forcing that big, bloody bruise to move about.

Isn't it too late for that? I've got this since wednesday:(. – Supernova. Mar 23 2012 at 11:28
The discoloration is blood, in fact it's better to rotate the hot/cold at this point. You aren't anaemic by any chance are you? My wife has Iron-deficient anaemia and tends to bruise quite easily, and even with hot/cold her bruises still last for awhile. – Joshua Mar 23 2012 at 12:52
I haven't done my blood test for a while so I don't know for sure. Thanks for your answer! – Supernova. Mar 23 2012 at 14:23
Joshua is on the money. Arnica is good and if you can get your hands on some Comfrey Tea - make compresses. Vitamin E is also nice. I remember my first black eye, boot to the face at a hardcore show. Good times were still had tho :) Feel better! – jesuisjuba - paleorepublic.com Mar 23 2012 at 18:39

Arnica gel or lotion is da bomb! Also take homeopathic arnica internally (30c strength.)

MSM cream? Be careful if you try it on such delicate tissue. MSM/DMSO was a staple of my grandfather's. Of course, he was a large animal vet. It does move things along, though.

If it were me, I would rub it out. Unfortunately, that sounds a lot more fun than it is. Lube up a finger so you don't tear the skin, try your best to hold the skin taut with the other hand, and rub your finger over it like you are trying to get the last bit of toothpaste out of the tube (or homemade baggie).

This is one of my favorite post sparring rituals, plus it keeps me from getting weird looks at work. I've found that typically the area around the eye doesn't actually feel bruised, so it isn't very painful, it's just pooled blood that can be told to "move along".
