I was wondering about this after reading several posts from people who say they don't enjoy starchy foods unless they are heavily fatted up. One of them said they do better with a higher percentage of fat in their diet and could only tolerate so much starch.
Personally, my body couldn't deal with high fat paleo and I switched to eating lots of potatoes, rice and fruit. The thing is, I love plain white rice, I eat just a big ball without even salt. I also eat white potatoes boiled in salted water with nothing else and I enjoy it. From the time I was a kid, fat made me squeamish. My mother used to get mad at me for complaining about the "jelly" on the chicken, and I couldn't stand it if there was enough butter on my bread to sink my teeth into. I can't even imagine eating a spoonful of coconut oil.
Today I cut off most the fat hanging on my meat for no other reason than I just don't like eating it. I don't even like biting into the crispy fat on a bacon strip. I do like some fatty foods a lot: sausages, eggs, burger patties, nuts, chocolate, mayo, etc. But it's like I have a very low "full" mark on my fat gauge.
So those whose bodies prefer a starchy diet, do you enjoy eating lots of fat? And do the folks whose bodies prefer the fatty diets enjoy fairly plain starch? Is there anyone who has found they do best with lots of starches and yet dislike them (and the opposite)?
If I go under a certain amount of carbs, particularly starch, I get very snappy and angry, I'm prone to anxiety and after introducing more starch and carbs in general my mood has improved heaps! I mean, I have European heritage and I Was brought up on sausages ( mm fat) and potato, so my love for both starch and fat has been there all along, and I wouldn't have it any other way. and if your curious, I've been quite skinny all my life
My brother is exactly like you when it comes to fat. Me on the other hand, I love all fats, coconut cream, butter, nuts, and I adore bacon and beef fat off steak...oh and my grandparents farm raised pork ( pork crackles)
It's just heaven to me! I do eat white potatoes often, also with nothing ontop, but sometimes i'll put a bit of salt with natural yogurt on-top.
Mind elaborating on why your body couldn't deal with high fat?
More importantly, how happy can your brain be without necessary fat and cholesterol for repair and hormone production? I will admit I am biased because I favor a high fat diet over high starch. It also sounds like you never converted to fat burning as your primary source of fuel. While I will agree that we are all different and the paleo diet has to he tweaked to suit our own personal needs, mood swings, energy dips and such should disappear once you've weaned yourself off of carb dependence. Of course, your carb needs will be different if you're an athlete. The other variable you have to look at is where your ancestors are from. People tolerate various foods better than others if their genetic lineage had those foods naturally available to them in the region they come from.
