I am An African American wondered if there are any good remedies for acne scarring and flare ups? I am in my late 30's and really frustrating.
Been through all skin regimens just gets worse or dry. Help anyone. Do I need to detoxify or it it my hormones.
Try to see what is causing those flare ups.
I've had to deal with rosacea, cysts, acne, etc, you name it. For me, anytime I would eat out (and tried to eat Paleo). I came to the conclusion it was because of soy, dairy, or anything with white vinegar in it.
But the most important thing right now is to let your skin heal. Don't be fooled by those acne washes or creams. I've tried them all and they only further irritate your skin. Your skin is sensitive and we're not meant to be putting all these harsh chemicals on it. Try just using water and sticking strictly Paleo and record what happens.
I believe acne flares are caused, in many cases at least, by food intolerances. For me, it's seed oils; also soy and shrimp. Many others have posted over the months and I take note. Most call out dairy as the culprit. Interestingly, everyone seems to have very specific predictors (another one I recall seeing was gluten). Bad proteins must get excreted and it seems the skin is least capable of dealing with that. Of course, I'm speculating wildly in that last statement.
This may not be paleo but I've tried at least 30 different products an have had great luck with Ole Hendricksons aloe Vera deep cleanser, I got mine at sephora. I have also had good luck with apple cider vinegar, I drink it once daily, about 1-2 tsp. Good luck!
try to cut down dairy, my skin is getting better every day since I avoid everything containing milk, and only go with 2 to 3 teaspoons of cream a day in my coffee and a sheep yoghurt every now and then, pastured butter is ok as well
Many people with acne have experienced total remission using Paula's Choice products. All her stuff is firmly based on peer-reviewed dermatological research. No woo, no BS, no exotic mystery herbs or magic berries. Her BHA/AHA products are particularly stellar and reasonably priced, just a step up from Olay.
Having solved my acne issued with Paula, I wanted a higher amount of proven actives, so I combine her things with Dr. Hannah Sivak's Skin Actives. Dr. Sivak was a research scientist at Michigan State University with particular expertise in proteins and expression. Her products are also firmly anchored in actual science - again, no woo, no BS.
