Has anyone noticed any correlations between their poop quality and their body fat or weight?

It seems to me that when my poop is of better quality, I'm also a bit slimmer by a couple of pounds. Has anyone else observed this?

It probably has to do with the gut bacteria populations. Studies have shown that obese people have different gut ecology and suggested that the ecology contributes to the excess body fat. But perhaps it's the other way around?

I'm convinced gut health correlates directly to weight – Stephen-Aegis Sep 21 2010 at 16:17
Yes, but gut health is greatly influenced by healthy eating. – Eva Sep 21 2010 at 22:02

I suspect the main issue is the health of the food you eat. Healthy eating and weight loss and healthy poops are likely strongly correlated. But which is the causational factor? My guess would be although weight loss and healthy poops are correlated, the causational factor is probably healthy eating.

Agreed - possibly you are slimmer when you are eating better, and you're eating better makes your poop quality higher – CT Sep 21 2010 at 21:17
Yes, exactly... – Eva Sep 21 2010 at 22:03

Yes. I have noticed this. It's rare I have a good movement.

Sadly, eating Paleo has not helped me 100% with this problem. I've tried fermented foods, more carbs, less carbs, more fat, less fat, more protein, less protein, more fruit, less fruit, no fruit, supplementation. More sleep, less sleep, no sleep. Nothing. It feels most days it comes, but its never well formed. Never feel cleaned out. Last time it was normal was probably when I cheated with gluten (probably a half-year ago).

Always no grains, no legumes, no dairy.
