My mother has been doing the leptin reset faithfully for the last few weeks. Even though she's lost 26 lbs. (she started at over 600 lbs., with a host of chronic issues and a history of yo-yo dieting, which contributed to her getting to be this size in the first place), and her joints were feeling a bit better, she's been feeling really queasy each day. Then in the last 48 hours, she's had severe gall stones, her resting heart rate is 101, and she threw up four times already.

Because she lives in another country where herbal supplements and non-prescription drugs (like Betaine HCl) are hard to come by, she doesn't have a lot of ways to help her digest the large quantity of fats and proteins needed on the diet. She said she feels like she's dying. She couldn't stand when she tried to get out of bed earlier today, and it took 1 1/2 hours before the paramedics, firefighters, and her husband got there -- six strong men -- to help her back into bed. To add injury to insult, one of the men helping lift her was careless and tore the flesh beneath her belly, which last time took over a month to heal.

So, the internet is flooded with search page after search page of how to get into and stay in ketosis. How do we quickly and safely get her OUT of it, because she says she's dying, and she's only in her 50's. Also, she has a 100 degree temp, which for her, is very high.

(NOTE: She may be very big, but she's not diabetic, she doesn't have a thyroid issue, her cholesterol levels have always been in a safe range, and while she has hypertension, it was caused by a toxic pregnancy many years ago before she was fat.)

Does she live in a country where they have ERs? She needs to see a real doctor quickly. Those are potentially lift-threatening symptoms she has. You said the paramedics were already there? Is she being treated by a medical professional? I need to close this until you can confirm she is seeing someone for this. Paleohacks is not for life-threatening conditions and it doesn't sound like anything caused by ketosis anyway. – Bread-Eating Beelzebub Mar 28 2012 at 4:30

I'm so sorry Raven! This must be so scary for you. I can't imagine how you must be feeling. I'm not trying to argue with you but why do you think she needs to come out of ketosis? I guess I don't see the connection. Anyway it's super easy to get out of. Just eat some sugar. Fruit, carbs of any kind really. Whatever she's got in the house or has easy access to. Probably 75g or so will ensure she's out.

I hope she stabilizes and is o.k.
