I've been doing paleo for a few months now and cut out all grains, dairy, sugar, junk oils and have seen HUGE improvements in my skin, health, hair etc. But I still have been eating the supermarket grain fed hormone beef. ( all I can get at the moment) I know the omega 6's are harmful but I eat tons of sardines/salmon.
Basically I'm just asking if the hormones/antiobiotics given to the cows have any real effect when you consume them or is it negated by cooking?
It sounds like you're doing great John. Keep up the good work.
To answer your question we have had at least 16 related discussions (if you haven't had a chance to look) but I think the general consensus is that they are indeed a problem that cooking cannot fix.
If you buy meat from the supermarket, it is important that you choose lean cuts to decrease your omega-6 intake as much as possible. Even if your ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 may be good by taking in lots of fish, too much PUFAs is not optimal.
The hormones in the meat are, as far as I know, not destroyed by cooking and contribute to hormonal imbalances, such as estrogen dominance, infertility, PCOS, etc.
Can you try to find a farmer in your area where you could buy your meat from? Even if you are on a budget, get yourself a freezer and buy a quarter of a cow, which should allow you to pay a lot less per pound of meat.
