Hey, I really like all this web stuff, yes I do... I'm a huge geek, and when winter falls here in Upstate New York (i'm anticipating about 150 inches of snow this winter), I get to stay home safe and socialize a bit.

HOWEVER.

I really would like to meet other Paleo/Primal/PaNu(s) in person sometime before winter comes.

What are all the ways that Evolutionary Eating people can network online with the purpose of meeting in person?

Links and suggestions, please!

and hey, a funny story if you are willing to share it!

Initially I agreed and thought Meetup would be best. But it costs money and doesn't produce results usually. So forget Meetup. I think we'd be better served by just starting local Paleo groups on Facebook. I'm thinking of starting up my own in North Texas (the Dallas/Fort Worth area).

Awesome! I live in Denton (work in Dallas), and know several paleo people. – Ben Sep 22 2010 at 15:47
I think I'm going to go with this, and consider putting matching information on meetup later if i think the money is worth the increased coverage. – Adam Crafter Sep 23 2010 at 12:19
I'm in Austin so within driving distance. – MeepsIsWellfed Feb 14 2012 at 18:38

I know this isn't before winter, but don't forget the Ancestral Health Symposium coming up next summer! I'm pretty pumped about it!

Meetup.com? If you guys don't have a paleo group down there, you can start one, but it'll cost ya!

Other than that, Crossfit seems to house a good number of paleo dudes and chickadees.

Funny story: I just emailed a paleo girl on an online dating site. She is the only one with "paleo" in her profile in the 100 square mile area. Finding a sweet, funny girl might be hard, but find a sweet, funny, paleo girl is exponentially harder.

There needs to be a paleo dating site...hmmmm. – Bread-Eating Beelzebub Sep 22 2010 at 13:04
I second that!! – terenced Sep 22 2010 at 14:22

a guide to converting current love interests to paleo would also be nice. – MikeD Sep 22 2010 at 17:02

Inappropriate story: a former significant other required me to eat citrus fruits before nights that she stayed over. Yadda yadda yadda. Did you know that sperm cells are one of the only types powered by fructose? – Kamal Sep 22 2010 at 17:24
So are you still eating citrus fruits even though you are not "required" to do so anymore, Kamal♦? – Wcc Kamal Stabby fan Feb 14 2012 at 19:33

My local paleo meetup is a deadfish, no activity... – Stephen-Aegis Sep 22 2010 at 10:03
Update, Atlanta meetup has been resurrected by Elizabeth! – Stephen-Aegis Feb 7 2011 at 2:47

Meetup.com is great. I started a group in Austin, TX only a couple months ago and already have around 50 members. If you don't have one in your area, Start One! It is worth the small amount of money it costs.

Check it out if you live in Austin : http://www.meetup.com/Austin-Primal-Living-Group/

Same here as above - doesn't seem to be too much on meetup.com for Chicago. (At least, not last time I checked.)

Yeah, I've checked it but they are more Primal than Paleo and don't really seem as much my type of people as the folks around here. I would love a PH Chicago group though! I am willing to travel. – sherpamelissa Feb 7 2011 at 1:39
I was hoping it would be mostly people from paleohacks, since I don't recall hearing about the meetup.com group from anywhere else, but I guess paleo/primal is more widespread than I'd've guessed! – Casey Feb 7 2011 at 5:16

I'm in west LA, recent UCLA grad. Hello April too, again. – Knarf Feb 14 2012 at 20:55
I definitely think we should plan a meetup! :) – April S. Feb 14 2012 at 23:37

So this is probably the next step in the thought process, and since this question was posted 5 months ago that probably makes this okay.

Any of you been to a scooter rally? In a nutshell it's a really fun and great excuse to pack up and go some distance to meet up with other people who are into the same thing you are. It's a social thing. There's lots of variety among the scooterati, which lends itself to lots of different types of scooters and interesting conversations. During the rally weekend there are always fun activities and group rides around whatever town/city we're in. On Saturday night the rally hosts hold a big ass banquet. The last one was very Paleo (coincidence) with 4 roasted pigs. On the last day there is a (optional) gymkana where people go through a course that's been set up to test their scooter riding skills and what not. At night there is lots of food, drink and conversation.

Their rallies are also pretty cheap. The most we've ever paid for a ticket is $60. They keep the prices down by getting sponsors and selling raffle tickets.

My point with all this is this seems to me like a format that would lend itself well to Paleo. They are fun, social events that are organized in a way that it's worth driving a far distance to go to them. It is also the only way we get to see some people during the year. We meet up in the middle. Scooters have scooter clubs. Maybe we should start a Paleo Club in our areas to cover the more social aspect of the Paleo lifestyle.

Food for thought and all that.
