Bear with me for a moment. I started eating primally at the start of January this year. I do believe I am metabolically deranged as I was carrying about 60 extra lb and had a lot of belly fat (apple shape). I researched a great deal and committed to eating Primally. I have lost 25 lb in 3 months but am concerned as my hsCRP has actually risen from 7.5 in November, when I was eating a SAD to 11.0 last week.
This has spurred me to do a Whole30 or reset following Chris Kresser's advice. I am finding it hard as I have no enjoyment from food on this reset plan, as I have dropped fruit, dairy and all but a few macadamias in the morning.
My question is whether this reset is really necessary. I don't have autoimmune issues that I know of. No allergies that I know of. I have osteoarthritis that has improved greatly while on Primal. Anyone have any ideas?

What's wrong with bacon, eggs and bone broth in the morning? My guess is you might have some kind of underlying or infection issue. It's non-specific inflammation and u can't rule out autoimmunity. I'd get ANA tested, rule out thyroid (thyroid antibodies), check infection and other inflammation markers (WBC, HDL, liver enzymes, ESR, SR). – Namby Pamby Mar 30 2012 at 4:34
Could also be OA, assuming you've ruled out RA. – Namby Pamby Mar 30 2012 at 4:36

Have you had your teeth cleaned recently? Do you have lurking gum disease? – Wowza Apr 15 2012 at 4:25
I agree with Namby Pamby's recommended tests, based on my personal research of elevated CRP levels. Mine was at 15, and it turned out to be a dental infection. – mmddyyyy May 11 2012 at 5:46

Maybe you are eating a new food to which you are having a reaction? For example, are you suddenly eating lots of eggs? Mike

Thanks, but really nothing new. I am trying not to stress about it and will get it rechecked in a couple of months. – liz Apr 29 2012 at 3:35

Is there something else going on that might account for a change? Sleep? Stress? Exercise?

7.5 to 11 is not real concerning over the short term. Give it a little time and recheck. Whole 30 is not necessary, BUT it's a darn good idea. It is absolutely "metabolic magic" for some people. I would be somewhat suspicious for something else going on. Any other lab results. Age, blood pressure?

I am 50. I am on BP medication, which controls it well. My APOb has come down from 1.25 to 1.05 in 2 months and my cholesterol panel wasn't bad to begin with. I did the Whole30 for 21 days- couldn't quite last the whole month. I did lose about 10 lb and felt pretty good but I think that the VLC was just too much for my body. My hair began to fall out in large amts after returning to near normal amts of hair loss. – liz Apr 29 2012 at 3:34
