I am going here (http://www.r2lrestaurant.com/dinnermenu/) a place called R2L in Phila PA next Saturday with my bf for valentines day. Please someone help me to pick what to order that keeps me paleo as possible http://www.r2lrestaurant.com/dinnermenu/ thanks :)
I'd probably roll the Monkfish or the Venison Chop sub broccoli hold grains, or the mushrooms and leeks. Or ask if the Salmon is wild and do that. For apps there is the steak tartare, shrimp cocktail, clams, or oysters. At a place like this you also need to watch out for the sauces. Order it on the side if necessary.
Monkfish, Salmon and Venison look pretty safe. And of course, you can get tons of oysters!
Usually places like this don't really do many modifications, so sauce on the side might not be an option. However, the plus side is that places like this are "foodie" enough that if you walk in and say "hey, I don't eat X, Y, and Z, what can you make for me?" they will usually come up with something awesome. They do it for vegans all the time!
Hells yes on the Monkfish with Lardo... that's giving me ideas!
Tartare for starter - hold the bread.
Monkfish for dinner - side dish would be steamed veggies.
Although I personally would eat the Heritage Pork Porterhouse for Two by myself, with the wild mushroom, braised leeks, celery root side dish, and maybe the homemade salt+vinegar potato chips.
This sounds a lot better than a cheesesteak. I'd go with the veal. I'd also recommend trying to get some of that black truffle oil, or whatever they're using on the risotto and the flatbread, and drip a little on a salad or cheese for the aroma. Amazing stuff.
