Did anyone here try a thyroid tissue supplement? And if so, what brand would you recommend, and what benefits did you see? Would it be a better idea to eat thyroid itself, or is that impossible to find? If these questions sound dumb to you, that's probably because I know nothing about the subject.

I take erfa-thyroid, it's what armor used to be before the change in formulation. I use it mostly to help me sleep, and it does a good job, probably due to the T4 content. Yes, thyroid tissue is hard to find because the FDA doesn't allow it. You might be able to get some if you know a butcher. |

I take Nature-Throid for my Hashimoto's hypothyroid - Nature-Throid (official website) since the great thyroid medication shortage of 2008 and then again when Armour changed formulations. I'm so happy I did because even before Armour changed formulas it didn't work that well for me. Nature-Throid has given me marked noticeable improvements whereas all Armour formulations were pretty meh for me. My mom is also hypothyroid and had the same impression when she switched from Armour to N-T. Neither of us would go back to Armour (or any synthetic) for any reason. Many endocrinologists aren't familiar with it but if you specify that you'd like to try it they should be willing to comply hopefully. |
