So for the past few days, I'm having this weird feeling and I don't really know how to describe it, making it even more difficult to do research into it.

It's a bit like shaking on the inside. Like that false feeling of falling (some of you might have experienced while in bed), but more slowly, not that suddenly and pretty frequent. Just imagine your body and within it your soul. Then imagine that soul shaking within that body without moving it. Do you guys have any idea what I mean? Can this have something to do with the locomotor system?

This may be hard-to-impossible to nail down. One thought would be subtle hyperventilation. Observe your breathing; if you tend to be a mouth-breather, practice mindful relaxed breathing through your nose. Otherwise, I have no clue other than some vague hormonal response. – Nance Apr 3 2012 at 17:58
I use to get this too, solved it by going paleo, but I think it was because I was exercising too much and not consuming enough calories. – ROB Apr 3 2012 at 18:48
Ah, the cheat could be a clue. Many people find they have a nasty reaction to wheat after 30 days or more "clean." Some of us find our gut heals over the course of a year and small occasional cheats are okay again--some of us. Once in a while. :-)) – Nance Apr 3 2012 at 18:55
Thanks Nance, proper breathing would kill some stress too. – Sam Apr 3 2012 at 19:06
I actually get this too! It's caused by the pressure in my inner ears being messed up. The ENT gave me 'inner ear exercises' to do, as well as a nasal decongestant. – NewEra Apr 3 2012 at 20:44

I get this feeling now and then - kind of an inner shaking or sinking feeling, even vertigo - and I think it is partly (for me) an inner ear problem and/or ear wax accumulation. I use ear oils (or just olive oil) to help keep my ears clear of the wax.

I also get it when I'm not eating enough carbs, so I always try to watch that.

And... it also happens when I drink too much of certain herbal teas - Lemon Ginger, for example - which is odd because ginger is supposed to be good for vertigo symptoms.

I never thought of over-hydration as being an issue but I'm going to play around with that, take more salts and electrolytes (coconut water being a fav!).

Good luck!

Ear wax / infection can do this as well as a bad tooth... – Eric Apr 3 2012 at 21:11

Meniere's disease? It is an inner ear thing with episodes of vertigo, sometimes with low pitched tinnitus.

Spring allergies can cause congestion in the ears and sinuses that can give you slight vertigo.

If this is happening while you fall asleep it is sleep paralysis. Scary, scary, shiz, but physically harmless.

If it is happening when you stand up you likely need some salt stat. Are you stressed out or drinking extra water, you can get into a salt deficiency pretty quickly. Unrefined sea salt is probably best, but if you are feeling really weird any salt will do for now.

If you have been losing weight, everything that was stored in your adipose tissue is now circulating freely through your body, all sorts of fun stuff can come out like hormones, heavy metals, plastic toxins, or even LSD.

Also make sure you are getting enough to eat, lack of calories could make you shaky.

Good luck, this doesn't sound like any fun, I hope you figure it out soon.

Thanks, I'm really stressed out (not over this matter) and drinking more than usual, so I'll hit the salt asap – Sam Apr 3 2012 at 18:37

You'll know within a day if it is the salt. I just saw the bit about the treats a few days ago, could also be reactive hypoglycemia if that was big spike in refined carbs for you, it could take a while before blood sugar balances again. If it continues, I'd give your doc a call. – Happy Now Apr 3 2012 at 19:04

I want to say make sure you are well fed, calorically speaking. Outside of that, you may want to contact your Dr.

Best of luck, and I hope you feel better soon.

Except from my have a major cheat on March 31, I'm well fed (nutritionally and calorically speaking). I hope that's what caused this shaky feeling and it's not that annoying or terrible, I just want to nail it down, know what's actually going on :) Thanks – Sam Apr 3 2012 at 18:34
What did this cheat entail? Do you have any known allergies? – Todd Apr 3 2012 at 18:39
Chocolate, pancakes, muffins and an éclair. No known allergies – Sam Apr 3 2012 at 18:44

Sounds like you had a blast :) I still think it may be something you would want to check out with your Doc if it doesn't go away in the next couple days – Todd Apr 3 2012 at 18:55
You could say so. Mainly vegetable oils, gluten and (cane) sugar. It just are the foods I like(d) so much and I hoped after 30 days to be disgusted about them. Although I knew they are bad already. I'll give it a few days – Sam Apr 3 2012 at 19:02

That can be a symptom of adrenal fatigue. I would recommend Dr. Wilson's book Adrenal Fatigue: 21st Century Stress Syndrome.

what are you eating? How long have you been eating that way? Could be the typical paleo fog some people talk about when they make the change. That's easily treated with a little time or upping food or fat intake. Can you give some more details?

Actually I'm eating kind of PHD and I had a major cheat on March 31 after 30 days of clean eating to check if I'd still crave/like it.... April the first has been a big joke due to a lot of problems (diarrhea, reflux, tiredness, itch,...) and this feeling. – Sam Apr 3 2012 at 18:40

Does it feel like your stomach is dropping slowly, like on a roller coaster but slower? Have you gone on or off any medications lately?

It actually does. I haven't gone on or off any medications lately, but I did have a major cheat on March 31 after 30 days Paleo – Sam Apr 3 2012 at 18:29

Perhaps low potasium? Just one possibility...

If it happens upon waking up from a nap it could be sleep apenea. Also does it happen after standing up or sitting down?

It happens frequently through the day. A mild feeling of shaking, while I'm not shaking at all. – Sam Apr 3 2012 at 18:30

Question: is the shaking sensation in your whole body, or is it a feeling of shaking inside your head, ie. the way that light-headedness is sort of "head-based"?

It's both . . . – Sam Apr 3 2012 at 18:55

Classic anxiety symptom-- the inner tremble. Pay it no attention and it will work itself out at some point. It's very scary at times, but nothing serious
