Okay.

I kept reading about raw/runny egg yolks added to a cooked meal and decided to try it today.I normally hard-boil my eggs or scramble them up with something. I used to be afraid of raw eggs but read on this forum that it is really the uncooked egg white that was the problem. I decided that hey, PH has awesome people and I should try this out.

I had some leftover grass-fed beef cooked with some eggplant (random, I know...but it was on sale!) and greens. I heated it up with one egg white. After it was done cooking, I threw the raw egg yolk in, mixed it a little...and it is AMAZING. How was I living before this?

So, what's something you didn't eat or drink pre-paleo but have since discovered and love?

Edit: and now my stomach hurts a little but that might also be because I decided to heat up more just so I could experience the raw egg magic again. But I'm done now, ha ha.

I used to absolutely hate anything coconut. Now my kitchen is filled with coconut oil, coconut cream, coconut flakes, etc... It's funny because I think it's replaced my obsession with almonds. The other day my husband asked why I haven't been eating almond butter anymore ha.

I think I avoided a lot of red meat and anything that wasn't a neat little baked chicken breast or cute steamed white fish filet because I thought for some reason it wasn't feminine to eat "messy meat" or anything fatty. I don't know how to explain it, but now when I hear all my lady friends say they just don't like red meat, I have to wonder if they really don't or if we've been brainwashed into thinking that a girl who eats a burger is less feminine.

My boyfriend, who I have converted to primal, says that nothing makes him happier than watching me gnaw on a lamb bone. I have to agree.

I've developed a little Saturday routine where instead of eggs and bacon, I make eggs (runny) and baked prime rib bones. Such a great combo. My friends think I'm crazy, my bf thinks it's rad. – Jen Apr 6 2012 at 2:22

I get so excited when my broth is so thick I can use a fork to pull it out of the container. I make "muhahahaha" noises and just coat the backs of spoons with it to see how beautiful and shiny it is. I used to make pretty good broth back in normal-food-days, but now it is my favorite thing ever. I am happy just thinking about it.

I used to like oysters a bit- I thought they were okay, we had them a lot when I was little so I was pretty used to them off the BBQ, but they were never my favourite. I would have picked lots of things to eat before oysters. Now they are my new PMS food- I can destroy 2 dozen oysters for a snack. I asked for a raw oyster feast for my birthday this year, with seaweed salad on the side. Opposite of birthday pizza.

I used to be "meh" about red meat, I ate it a couple of times a year. Now I crave it.

I swear to God that I used to hate bacon. The flavor, the texture, the smell, everything about it. When my husband and I switched to paleo, he started making bacon for breakfast a couple of times a week and, as we progressed, I got more and more interested in it. One day, I asked if I could have a little nibble from his plate. One taste and I promptly lost my mind over it. How did I go through 25 years despising these little slabs of porky, fatty heaven? I have so much to make up for. So much lost time...

So. That's my answer. Haha.

Fish! Hated it all my life - now I eat sardines straight from the can.

Butter. I used to never touch the stuff believing I would blow up like a balloon. Now I can't get enough of it!

Coconut oil and kefir. I thought coconut oil would clog my arteries (arterycloggingsaturatedfat) and I had never even heard of kefir.

Red meat...and Kombucha!

Brussel sprouts, the endless ways one can prepare cauliflower (that stuff is incredible! who knew?), and lamb - I can't get enough lamb lately. Loving how fatty it is; I'd never tried it prior to this year.

Dark Chocolate, Coconut, Avocado...Yummy :)

Fats. I followed the CW approach of eating "light" foods, even though I was still shooting for 3500 calories per day. Since I've gone paleo, nuts, coconut oil, fatty cuts of meat, full-fat yogurt and dairy are some of my favorite things.

Fatty meats. My poor husband suffered through so much boneless, skinless chicken breast and pork tenderloin in the pre-paleo days. Now it's steaks and ribs, baby. And Bacon! God, I love that shit.

I'll second the raw/runny egg yolks. I ate a Bison/Goat burger at a local Austin eatery. When I asked for the egg to be cooked all the way or removed, the waitress threatened bodily harm. Possessing a strong interest in keeping my person intact and unmarred, I gave it a try and holy cats was that good. I mean the burger was excellent all the way around, but a bite of everything WITH the egg and it was like that fizzing and popping scene in "Ratatouille". Now I eat them all the time. Poached, sunny side up in bacon grease, or David Chang's famous 5:10 eggs. I might try adding a raw egg to a protein shake.

Rutabagas! I love those things. I'm starting to eat a little fish, which is new for me although I always ate shellfish. I'd seen dairy kefir in the store but hadn't tried it and I'd never heard of water kefir, which I now drink pretty much every day. I recently bought my first-ever bottle of kombucha.

Number 1 food that I absolute love now and never even heard of before is plantains.

Sweet potatoes are a distant second.

Everything else is either just good or I had eaten it before.

I eat so many more vegetables now! I'd never had brussels sprouts before but they are delicious roasted! Kale, mustard greens, fennel, collard greens, artichoke, cabbage, parsnips... I had literally not tried any of them and now I just love experimenting with new ways to cook them. My mom was never experimental with veggies when I was growing up- she stuck with the ones she could get us to eat. Now I am making up for it by trying any new veggie I can get my hands on!

Heavy cream! Had no idea I would like it in my (British) cup of tea!
