I've been paleo for a couple months. About 30 mins ago I stupidly ate 1/3 of a cake which I baked a few weeks ago then stuck in the freezer. It was one of those Betty Crocker box mix things. Made with lots of vegetable oil and conventional eggs. Shortly after my stomach started to hurt, feel tight and hot. 20 minutes later, I'm having diarrhea, hot stomach cramping, slight nausea, sweating, and for about 5 minutes went totally out of my mind- in & out of consciousness, fainting, hallucinating. I thought I was going to die and almost called 911 but was too out of it. That feeling ended only about TEN minutes ago. I'm shaking but feel better for purging my system a bit, but I have a feeling another round will come on.. I'm asking this question while I'm of clear mind for advice on what to do. That highly intoxicated feeling was quite scary. I will NEVER be giving in to cravings again...

also.. the only other thing it might be is from the beef/bacon I ate earlier, but highly doubt it because I didn't feel sick till the cake

I disagree...I was fine until I ate that wretched cake. One more possibility- I haven't eaten nightshades since becoming paleo, I'm sensitive to them, but I have eaten 2 whole bell peppers today.

Take major health issues to your doctor, or the ER, not Paleohacks. – Matt Apr 5 2012 at 23:15
This could be serious food poisoning. Please see a doctor ASAP, even go to the ER if you have to . Make sure to insist on a stool culture. CLosing until you report back. – Bread-Eating Beelzebub Apr 5 2012 at 23:22

This has nothing to do with vegetable oil. You should see a doctor.

Seems like a serious allergic reaction or anaphylactic shock. – Paleo Alec Apr 6 2012 at 1:51

If this continues I would try and get a friend to take you to a walk in clinic. Do not be a statistic and die alone in your bathroom with yuck coming out of both ends. It happens. Hell, it may have nothing to do with the food. So be careful. Don't wait till it's too late to call a friend or the ambulance.

that's not normal! even if you haven't had wheat or processed oils in a couple month that just plain isn't normal. either it is something else entirely (like not food) or you got a contaminant in your food somehow like a household cleaner or bug spray or something. seriously go to the doctor.
