Hey, those in Bergen County, where do you go to get grass-fed beef? I would imagine Whole Foods in Paramus. I'm just curious about some alternatives. Fairway? Trader Joe's in Paramus or Westwood doesn't seem to carry much, if anything.

Whole foods has been it from what I've seen. If I'm in Wayne/Lincoln Park, I'll swing by A&A Fine Foods on Main St., which carries grassfed meat. I've yet to find anything else (or even a farm to get eggs, meat, etc from) – Carpet Oct 11 2011 at 11:47
Btw, do they sell grass-fed liver or marrow bones at Wholefoods to make bone broth with? I usually just eat feedlot liver / marrow bones but I wanna see if there is any difference. – Namby Pamby Oct 12 2011 at 21:57
I don't believe so. I know they carry shanks and bones but I can't remember if they're grass fed. They do have calves liver, which I just picked up. Apparently all calves are grassfed then switched to grain - so it's something. – Chris Oct 20 2011 at 0:58
Whole Foods Paramus used to sell grass fed liver & shanks. I haven't been there in over a year though. – Acumen Athletics Jul 17 at 0:35

Hey all! I'm in Bergen Cty (Hackensack) and usually buy from Whole Foods as well...or order online. I've just signed up w a "co-op on wheels" but haven't ordered any meat yet. They do have raw milk and pastured eggs, as well as a ton of other yummy paleo foods.

Bag Whole Foods. Head north an hour to Ulster (New Paltz) http://www.rondoutvalleygrowers.org/index.cfm or Dutchess (Rhinebeck) County http://www.hvfoodnetwork.com/page/3862743:Page:2074 http://www.hudson-river-valley.com/htm/Dutchess/Link0510.html and buy in bulk. I picked up 45 lbs (1/4 pig) of pastured pork last month for $300 (Old Ford Farm, Gardiner). Plenty of Hudson Valley Farms raising/selling grassfed/pastured beef, pork, chicken, eggs, raw milk and organic produce on both sides of the river. Weekend farm markets in every town. Farm stands are a dime-a-dozen.

Then there's Fleisher's in Kingston, which you have to see to believe http://www.fleishers.com/about-our-meat/our-pastured-meats/meat-pork

Learned last night at a screening in Rosendale of American Meat americanmeatfilm.com that Karl Family Farms karlfamilyfarms.com between Newburgh and New Paltz is starting a meat CSA karlfamilyfarms.com/members/types for 2013. This is just an hour north of North Jersey and 75-90 minutes from NYC. – grbnik Mar 6 at 12:19
