I have been doing "almost" Paleo for a month with no weight loss results. I say almost, as I still have not given up cheese and my daily glass of wine. (Gone are bread, pasta, rice, & grains). Have any of you noticed great results when giving up these 2 things - from no weight loss results? Did you feel better after? I have 20 pounds to loose.

I avoided cheese for the first month I was doing primal and then something crazy happened - I completely lost the taste for it. I still have some from time to time (usually only goat cheese) but I am not the cheese-fiend I was pre-primal. My friends who eat a lot of cheese on primal seem to have a harder time with weight loss. Someone will have to pry the wine glass out of my cold, dead fingers. I eliminated it for 10 days to see if it was giving me any trouble and then re-introduced it with no ill effects. It might have something to do with the tiny pooch I have around my belly but I won't be posing for any magazine covers any time soon, so I am keeping the wine. Congratulations on starting paleo! Are you noticing any positive effects yet? |

Only way you are going to find out for sure it to give it a test.. You will likely get multiple answers on here that either will or will not work for you. Remove the wine and cheese for a month and see what happens. Speaking from self experience the alcohol, cheese and nuts slow me down but I suppose that is because those 3 things I can consume a lot of and the calories sneak up on you. Cut them out and report back in a month! |

No, reintroducing a daily glass of wine (5-8oz) seemed to actually perk up my metabolism. Or I'll happily have a cider a day as well, with no negative effects. I avoid actual beers these days - when I was waffling on beer and would have one now and again, I'd always pay for it the next day. I can't comment on the cheese since eating it would render me writhing in pain on the floor. :-) Cutting out cheese as a dense source of calories, often used as a condiment, might help though. |

I can manipulate my weight entirely based on dairy and alcohol. Paleo(ish) with dairy & alcohol = stable weight... if I drop those two, I gradually lose weight. Good news since I don't have any plans to completely eliminate either from my diet for good. |

I've been doing a ketogenyc diet for a week and i've lost 5kg. My 5 cents. No beers, rice, pasta, veggies, etc... just proteins and grease (avocado, almmonds, coconut...). |

I enjoy wine every once in awhile. When I do, I do my best to keep the amount fairly low - I have small 5oz wine glasses, so I don't exceed 3 of those, and I avoid drinking late in the evening. As always, a glass of water between each glass will help you feel better the next day. Also, following the Leangains alcohol logic, I try and make sure that the higher carbs are no where near me when I am enjoying alcohol, I might nosh on local unsalted chucarrones, bits of cold leftover steak/chicken, or even some good cheese (very small amounts, less than 1oz/30gm)... (or preferably a ploughman's board containing all of the above) but steer clear of any fruit past a couple of berries. |

Wine is no big deal but it is not a health food dispite the over hyped importance of Resveratrol. Great for mice but not so much for humans. I can not believe you didn't lose any weight, unless ytou have little to lose. Low card is a weight loss diet, Paleo to me has been a health improvement diet- adds vitality and power to both body and mind. good luck. |

Everyone: THANKS FOR ALL THE GREAT RESPONSES! To be lean, I have actually 30 pounds to loose. I would be tremendously happy with 20 less right now. I will try cutting cheese and wine out for a month, and see what happens. I just started getting the dreaded menaupause hot flashes (3 to 8 times a day) - I am 55 now. Maybe my hormones are flyng, and they have stopped me from loosing weight(??). Skipping wine and cheese for a while just might do the trick. I read a couple of days ago that wine is not great for hot flashes. That it actually causes them. Eating Paleo has given me so much ENERGY! I don't miss the mad woman uncontrolable sugar cravings, and mood swings from the sugar highs and lows. I miss eating pasta for taste only - that is just habit. I have managed just fine not eating potatoes, bread, and rice. I never thought that I would ever say that as I lived for them before. Thanks for all you help. |
