Haven't lost weight (5'7, 144lbs). I'm active, workout 5-6 times a week and I feel thinner. My stomach is flatter and my muscles show a little more, but the scale hasn't moved. I'm tracking my calories and I'm under almost everyday. Here's what I normally eat: 3 to 4 Egg whites, one egg, two to three strips of organic bacon, half an apple Lunch - tuna steak with veggies or chicken Dinner. Grass fed steak or chicken, veggies Snacks - nuts, lots of fruit, apples, pears, almond butter

Am I eating wrong? Thanks for the help.

I wouldnt be to concerned with the scale. Losing fat is the target for healthy more than losing weight. Sounds like you are doing that. Though I might urge fewer days exercising unless that is pure pleasure for you, the body needs some rest time, say 2-3 days exercise per week.

Is weight loss a goal? You are right in the healthy range for your BMI (which I hate as a measurement of healthy, but it can be fine do ballpark a stranger), and losing weight would probably not be productive because that would mean that you couldn't gain muscle. I would recommend ditching the scale and focusing on eating to FEEL good. This is not supposed to be a weight-loss or quick-fix diet, so it will take a bit of time for the body to heal and to get used to consuming an adequate diet. I would be concerned about over-exercising and under-consuming calories, so that is something to watch out for (you won't do yourself any favors by doing either).

If you don't eat eggs yolks you are missing out on one of the most important nutrients, choline. Choline can be found in egg yolks but not the egg whites.

Maybe you're eating too much fruit if you're trying to lose? You say you are eating "lots of fruit" - how many pieces is that? And, nuts and nut butters are highly caloric. If you're sticking to 10 nuts or less, that's great. It's easy to over eat nuts. And the nut butters, too. You sound like you're on the right track though. Maybe just needs a bit of tweaking. Did you measure yourself when you started??

I didn't measure myself, but I can feel smaller in my waist/hips. Fruits are my go to snack. So probably two apples a day, some berries. I probably grab two handfuls (small) of trial mix a day. Too much? What do I snack kn if I'm hungry? I'm eating organic jerky too sometimes. – Kristen Apr 11 2012 at 2:22
If you are active 5-6 times per week, fruit is probably a great choice for you. – JeJ Apr 11 2012 at 12:04

Why are people so concerned with the Random Number Generator? It doesn't tell you body composition, inches lost, muscle gained or any other valuable information.

"My stomach is flatter and my muscles show a little more, but the scale hasn't moved."...isn't that good enough for you? Stay on track, keep plugging away at it, and you'll get where you want to be. Judge your progress by photos, measurements, clothes and how you feel. The rest will work itself out. You may want to cut back on fruit and increase your protein/fats, and keep drinking tons of water. One day at a time.

I'm only concerned in the sense that if I'm eating clean, shouldn't my excess fat come off pretty quick? I agree with you, the scale doesn't dictate how I feel, but the Paleo way of eating after years of counting calories and avoiding fats is scary, coupled with the fact that I'm not "losing" weight, I just wanted to make sure I was doing it correctly. I appreciate all the advice. Thank you :) – Kristen Apr 11 2012 at 6:38

well if your stomach is flatter and your muscles show a little more, you probably are losing fat and gaining muscle. THe number on the scale in that case could even move up. – gydle Apr 11 2012 at 6:41

Scale will not accurately reflect changes in body mass- if you are gaining muscle and losing fat, you may even gain a little bit of weight like @gydle said. I would seriously not step on another scale for the next month and just judge how you FEEL about your mood, energy, and body composition. Just step away...step away haha. – JeJ Apr 11 2012 at 12:03
Lol. Ok, no scale for a month. Thanks guys :) – Kristen Apr 11 2012 at 14:30
Get a tape measure. – Warren D Apr 11 2012 at 19:00

You can absolutely eat too much fruit! Although it is natural sugar, your body still digests it and stores it as sugar! Not to mention if it's hi glycemic.. Try and lower your fruit to 1-2 pieces a day.. Apples are good, so are berries. That should make a big difference :)

She's active 5-6 times a week- fruit is a good thing, especially because it's mostly berries. – JeJ Apr 11 2012 at 12:02
Fruit might be helpful before exercise but it's not doing much to help, the rest of the day. I think it' s well overrated and never found much advantage to eating it. – Warren D Apr 11 2012 at 19:04
I don't eat fruit for the benefits, I eat it as a snack when I'm hungry. I'll have a plate of sliced apples, oranges, a few nuts and some nut butter. But I could easily eat that twice a day cause I love it. I'm thinking maybe it's too much. – Kristen Apr 12 2012 at 4:45

You are doing it right. Doesn't seem like you really have any "weight" to lose. I wouldn't bother ditching out the yolks like you do but it isn't that big of a deal. If your stomach is flatter and your muscles are showing why would you expect to weight less? All that muscle you are gaining is replacing fat and weighing more than the fat it is replacing did. You do not need to lose any weight to be more healthy.

I want to be leaner. My stomach is flatter but still rolls some. I'm gaining muscle, but not in my stomach. That needs to be flat....or flatter. Thank you for your advice. – Kristen Apr 12 2012 at 4:42
I guess if you want to be obsessed with body image over health sure, your stomach needs to be flatter and have more muscles. – Ender Apr 18 2012 at 18:24
Actually, I want to make sure my fat intake or fructose isn't the problem, which results in belly fat. You don't have to be a d*ck about it. – Kristen May 8 2012 at 15:08
