i wasn't going to go to the gym today but i found i have a lot of energy that i want to utilize... i ate a very fatty brunch about 4 hours ago and at the time i wasn't planning on going to the gym just trying to stay as low carb as possible. usually on days i workout i focus on carbs and proteins (carb refeeds)... i've been basically zero carb (organ meats & eggs) for the last 5 days... my question is, is the refeed going to be less effective since i had such a fatty breakfast or does that not make a difference after a heavy lifting session? many thanks for your input i appreciate it all.

Effective at what? Evidently you're not planning to refeed for the energy since you have plenty to burn. If you're training hard and you don't have very long until your next workout then there may be some benefit, but it doesn't sound like you're on a crazy-intense plan either. And I'm not sure what your breakfast has to do with it. There's a lot of things that don't make sense that I'd be guessing at to answer your question but I'd say you don't need or want to be looking to guzzle down carbs every time you get back from the gym simply by rote. It doesn't sound like you need them so why would you bother? And how would you know if you need them unless you try without them from time to time? Besides, there's potential advantages to the occasional fasted recovery from a workout even if you do find carb refeeds to be helpful usually.

Well said. I think people get too caught up in trying to supplement any activity with carbs. I can do a 7 mile hill run, or a 1 hour HIIT session 4 hrs after a meal or 24 hrs after a meal. I also have no real need to immediately ingest some carbs to refeed. Most exercise doesn't deplete glycogen as bad as many would believe. Get used to burning fat, and carbs will be a boost of energy, not a requirement for energy. – RaiseFitness Jul 11 at 19:20
