I'm trying to lose weight, but I seem to have plateaued.. I snack on nuts, maybe 200g a day. I find paleo difficult to follow without using nuts as a snack, but think this could be preventing me from losing weight? I eat beef, chicken, bacon, cabbage, carrots, frozen peas. 3 litres or so of water a day. No grains, no dairy and no chocolate or sweets. Fruit is minimal in my diet too. I would think the weight would be dropping off. Is it the nuts? Almonds and walnuts. Any ideas!?! Tips!?
200gm of walnuts is 1200 cals!
Yes, I think this is probably going to cause you an issue.
Also, you might want to revisit your definition of "snack".
Personally, I put away 2oz (60gm) a day at the very most. More than that, and I stall.
200g is a lot, but I feel your pain.
I also seem to have a nutty addiction, but I've been transitioning more to just eating bagged lettuce/spinach/kale/etc. when I feel I must snack on something. Like everything else, it is an acquired 'taste', but I am personally one to enjoy the more subtle tastes and textures in foods.
Peas are also not paleo if you are eating a lot of them. I learned this well after barely making it to a restroom after reintroducing them into my diet before a long bike ride.
Also try to eat gobs of fat in the morning. When I first started paleo a year ago I would eat more than a half pound of bacon in the mornings with some eggs, and I would almost not feel hungry until dinner time.
"I find paleo difficult to follow without using nuts as a snack"
Sounds like you just need to work on your thinking a bit. No one ever said nuts were a necessary paleo food, though a lot of folks like to recommend them. I hereby challenge you to eat paleo for one week without the nuts.
I don't eat nuts at all, but if I did it would be infrequent and only in topping form. In other words, lightly sprinkled on a salad or the occasional fruit/yogurt dessert.
Also, if you focus on making your meals more satiating, you won't have to snack.
in the winter they are okay- it becomes seasonal around autumn and the omega 6s they have is okay to take in larger amounts- but not in the spring when omega 3s are the fat of choice. Have a few but if Paleo is hard to follow without nuts as a snack then you are not eating enough FAT in your diet. Better off making some eggs
Thanks for this post! I am a at a plateau also.....I have bad cravings for almond butter and will snack on a spoonful here and there everyday. It is my only downfall. I have to try and cut it out and substitute it for something else......deviled eggs sound good! Hard boiled egg even, something.
