I've noticed that on the days that I am super busy and forget to take my vitamins, I am weirdly hungry. And I don't even know if hungry is the right word. I think it's more that I'm not satisfied. Is that weird, or what? Does anyone else experience anything similar to this? What do you think I'm missing in my diet that's causing this weirdness? Thanks!

I don't think it's weird... because the same thing happens to me. I have celiac disease, so I figure I've had nutrient deficiencies for much of my life. After about 9 or 10 months of being gluten free eating lots of local, organic, grass-fed, etc foods, and taking supplements for D and K2, I finally feel less hungry in that way, satisfied and not requiring eating. (Note: I experience about a dozen different types of hunger... this one is the kind where I end up eating a small bite of everything in the house but rejecting each one.) I think Paul Jaminet has a theory of obesity related to nutritional quality, and he calls it something like his lean body mass set point theory, or something. So maybe he is right, and there are certain triggers to eat more if a quota for a particular nutrient isn't met. I'm not sure what specific mechanisms, but I have noticed that correlation for myself, especially before I started eating paleo with higher-quality foods. |
