okay so i have just asked a question regarding why my health is by most peoples standards.. crap! and im thinking maybe ive been doing paleo a little bit wrong for the past year and a half as in not including foods that greatly contribute to the feeling of amazing wellbeing. any foods that people think get their digestion/skin/energy levels going would be appreciated as i plan to go shopping and buy them for the week and see if my health improves after a month of so of incorporating these things.. examples: beef liver or whatever! i really need to start menstruating, get rid of skin and digestive issues and combat depression and anxiety, while food may not be the WHOLE answer, im willing to try different foods or meals people think really work for them?! thanks!!1
I don't think I could pinpoint single foods that make me feel good - as it's about more the absence of those that don't for me. And I guess we're all our own n=1 experiment.
One thing I do think has really helped my mood - which used to be quite up and down and now tends to be very levels - is supplementing D3.
Grass-fed beef liver sauteed with onions and mushrooms.
Full-fat Greek yogurt with strawberries makes for a yummy snack.
Artisana coconut butter. Straight outta the jar.
Sweet potato fries covered in Kerrygold butter. Tastes like cake.
Beef ribeye cooked in coconut oil with a wee bit o' sea salt.
Pan-seared ahi tuna with a side of seaweed. I feel way too healthy eating this.
Nitrite-free, uncured bacon & eggs. Duh.
And supplement with Vitamin D3. I noticed a vast improvement in my skin when I switched from 4000 to 8000 IU/day.
When I'm not feeling optimal I tend to fall back to a basic 1.0 paleo diet (I cut out tubers and dairy), but also supplement with a shot of cod liver oil at night and maybe a tablespoon of spiralina powder in the mornings with breakfast. Could mean I'm often low in vitamin D as well as iodine I guess, as I don't get sunlight as much as I like and I rarely eat iodine-rich foods. Going low carb paleo tends to fix any gut issues fairly quickly as well (starches, even the "safe" ones, tend to aggrivate my lower GI).
Within a few days I'm feeling better.
Fatty fish (sardines, salmon, herring, anchovies) Broth Almonds Blueberries Full fat organic yogurt- some studies indicate dairy fat is good for women wishing to increase fertility. Sorry on my phone can't get citations at this time.
My female hormones seem to benefit when I eat sunflower seeds. I also get help from sunflower seeds with my depression and anxiety sometimes. Another mood help for me is grapefruit. I'm not sure why. Sardines and salmon are mood-lifters in my experience, too, and any fatty fish. My skin tends to be better when I eat olives, avocados and coconut.
