Is it normal to be hungrier after having a protein shake? I have been including a protein shake or two a day into my diet by recommendation from my trainer, but I find on the days I have the protein shake that I am so much hungrier all day long. I'm having them after workouts generally speaking, but find from then on I am craving more food! I found not being hungry between meals so much more liberating!

I think I may know why this is. If it is whey protein that you are consuming, the protein elicits an insulin response. Insulin in the absence of carbs/sugar could be resulting in low blood sugar, and thus causing your body to crave food/sugar to bring it back up again. People like to forget that proteins cause insulin responses as well, they just don't have a glycemic load like carbs do. |
