Yesterday, I felt very different than usual. I had so much energy throughout the day, and I could not sleep last night.Today I feel the same way, and think I am in ketosis. If that were true, how long would it be safe for me to remain this way before eating a potato or two lol? What are the symptoms of being in ketosis? I didn't feel hungry after eating yesterday or today and know that I am not getting enough calories. At 11am today I ate 3 slices of bacon, and 3 eggs cooked in the fat, plus 1 tablespoon(approx.) of a cheddarcheese and butter blend I made. I don't know how to describe the feeling but kind of this "giddy high" lol. Can someone share some good links or books/information on ketosis? By the way I am 18 and female.

You don't really need to check, after a few days on a low carb diet you WILL be in ketosis (unless you eat more than 50 g carbs per day or so). Breath, urine and sweat might smell like aceton due to unused ketons, this should disappear when the body learns to handle them better though...

http://josepharcita.blogspot.se/2011/03/guide-to-ketosis.html is a guide that I've enjoyed reading, very detailed and informative.

@sess, thank you for this link. I was planning on going into ketosis, but it sounds like it might not be the best thing for me while I am training for a half-marathon. – Heather Apr 16 2012 at 23:31
Probably not if you're aiming for short term performance. It probably takes up towards 5-6 months before the body can perform better on ketosis than on a high carb diet. – sess Apr 18 2012 at 19:29

I tend to feel a little drunk and happy, not hungry, and have a good constant level of energy.

how many weeks of strict protein/fat consumption does it take you to get into proper ketosis? ive been really consistent and strict with my diet for 6 weeks and im still waiting for that big energy boost...most of the time I cant get by without a good few coffees – mzrdnan Apr 16 2012 at 20:00

Start with Jimmy Moore's website. He has TONS of info on ketosis. Personally, I wouldn't worry about ketosis, but think more about being a good fat burner, not how many ketones you have floating around.

If you want to drink your coffee, make it a Bullet Proof coffee. It's the best, and it keeps you satisfied for quite some time.
