So I have always loved juice but since starting paleo I haven't been able to drink it. I recently found knudsens which I used to drink anyway. It was fairly expensive so I was optimistic. When I turned the bottle of apple juice over to read the ingredients (this is where I always get dismayed) it simply read "juice from ripe whole organic apples, ascorbic acid to protect color", I also checked out the pomegranate cranberry "filtered water, organic cranberry and organic pomegranate juice concentrates, organic natural flavor". It also insists no sugar added, What do you guys think? safe to drink?

Well on the first one, ascorbic acid is just Vit-C. So if you're ok with that, I wouldn't worry about it. At my whole foods there's a juice just beside the Knudsen one that is nothing but juice. No additives at all. Also, note even if it says "no added sugar". That doesn't mean much as juice is just about all sugar anyway. So you still should limit it (if weight loss is your goal) I only drink Grapefruit juice because it's the easiest way for me to get potassium with the lowest accompanying sugar load. |

I will treat myself to a bottle every once in a while. The Black Cherry is my favorite (also happens to be the cheapest, lol). They also don't add any sugar, which is great since fruit juice is a sugar bomb as it is! I only drink one glass after dinner, like a dessert, until the bottle is gone. It's hard to resust not just chugging it all down! I prefer the darker juices, like cranberry, pomegranate, cherry, and blueberry. Apple is just too sweet for me. |
