What is the one thing (or the few things) that you just can't eat? I know that we all have foods we just can't take, so I'm just curious how what they are!

For me, I can not eat raw tomato and 99% of fish. I try all the time but I just can't get past the flavor/texture.

Sad to say, since it's so good for you, but coconut. I detest everything about it. The taste, the smell.....everything! Blech!

I can't eat liver. I've tried and tried, but I just can't get past the texture and smell.

The first thing that immediately came to mind was KIDNEYS. Way worse than liver. I actually really love liver.
Also, Brussels sprouts, canned fish and dry, unseasoned chicken.

Chicken breasts. Dry and blah.

I wish I didn't have to say LIVER

My first thought was black coffee, although of course it's not food anyhow. At least I enjoy the coffee after adding cream and honey; tea, on the other hand, tastes awful to me even when sweetened.

I don't like oysters AT ALL and have always refused to eat anything with that flavor. I don't like licorice either, although the "fresh" licorice taste of fennel works just fine for me.

Otherwise, I wish I were a little more picky because my general problem with food is that I like it too much.

EDIT: Oh, I forgot what may be my strongest Yuck!(see, I wiped them from my mind.) For me, avocado has the worst taste of anything. I've tried it whole and in dip form and there's nothing you can mix it with that allows me to call it edible.

Oh, licorice, how I despise you and all of your kinfolk. – Kelly Apr 18 2012 at 20:42

Mushrooms. When there are so many types that can kill you, maybe that's natures way of saying "forage for something else, dude."

I'm not a fan of kidneys or green olives. I have tried for so long to just casually eat green olives, and every time it makes me gag. A nice cured black olive- no problem. Green olives- slimy grossy nastiness. Kidneys taste exactly like what I imagine excretion would taste like, which is probably the fastest way to ruin a dinner.

I can't think of any other foods I dislike. Apart from perfectly good foods prepared the completely wrong way. Like overcooked fish- crime against the fish AND humanity.

Haha, I agree! I love a nice kalamata olive, but green olives have always been unpleasant to me – Violet9 Apr 20 2012 at 16:32

my yuck food is... well...... ummmmm............hmmmmmm. no, all the real stuff is good. one time my friend boiled a whole raccoon and it was a little funky, but it made great raccoon hash with onion and sweet potato the next morning.

Anything made with coconut flour. Love coconut, but the "replacement" flours all make me feel like I've eaten a large pool raft. And everything comes out tasting like crumbly sponges.

In my former life, I couldn't stand birthday cake and really resented when it was pushed on me. Now I am running slow motion through a field of fats and vegetables and loving every minute.

Celery. They kill my life. Unless smothered in something neolithic like peanut butter or cottage cheese I just can't get to like them...and I hate how the little strings get stuck in my teeth.

I have no "yuck" food.

Asparagus. The first time I remember trying to eat it I was about 5, took one bite and vomited in the sink. The smell alone makes me sick.

I was like that my whole childhood - then one day in my 20s I wanted to try it - and then loved it. Weird. – Thumper Apr 18 2012 at 20:12

I really dislike fatty meats, especially fatty poultry... gross n slimy! Eeeeek!

Pemmican. I made a huge batch for a 5 day backpacking trip and took no other food. By end of first day (24 miles), I had only taken 2 bites of pemmican all day and couldn't force myself to eat more. Ended up tossing it and buying SAD food from convenience store for rest of trip. I guess some chance I just messed up making it. Maybe I'll try again with a smaller batch. Anyone else tried homemade pemmican and liked it? I followed Lex Rooker's pemmican manual for the recipe.

I bought a ton of it online, I am slowly making my way through it -but its rat nasty. I bring it to work -where there are no other options. I am making my way through it, but NEVER again. – Senneth Apr 18 2012 at 22:24

I personally don't find green peppers or cauliflower add much to the gastronomic universe, and I will be tasting green pepper burps for hours afterwards.

I used to hate beets - I thought they tasted like dirt. Now I like them.

I really dislike beef liver. I think it tastes like what the side of a barn would taste like.

Fake cinnamon candy like cinnamon hearts make me sick. Yet I love real cinnamon.

Yes to beef liver. I can handle chicken livers, lamb liver, and pork liver (in pate). But beef liver I just can't do by itself no matter what I try. (I sneak a tiny bit into meatballs from frozen, grated because I hate the smell and texture of fresh.) – blueballoon Apr 18 2012 at 22:22

Brocolli, brussel sprouts, and liver.

I absolutely hate onions, raw or cooked. I'm hyper-sensitive to the smell; it makes me physically ill. I can even smell them on someone's breath if they've had onions within a 24 hour time period. Seriously hinders my enjoyment of salsa.

Fish, especially tuna. The smell makes me want to hurl.

sardines. I tried opening a can the other day for lunch and upon viewing the little slimy, scaley things physically shuddered and literally had to leave the room and make my boyfriend remove the can. I think it's an aversion developed from over exposure to my brother's dead pet fish throughout my childhood that I just can't stand small fish. On the other hand, I love crispy skinned salmon or sea bass.

What brand of sardines? Give Crown Prince Brisling sardines a try if they weren't specifically labeled. They're delicious, really not fishy, and have a pleasant slightly smoky flavor. – Blitherakt Apr 19 2012 at 6:20

For me it's offal because of the strong flavor/texture, most shellfish, and cooked mushrooms because of the texture, and little strong-tasting fish like anchovies or sardines. I also cannot stand brussels sprouts, although I've tried hard to become friends.

For my birthday once the brother of a dear friend went to great lengths and prepared a whole platter of exotic shellfish - lobster, clams, mussels, oysters, shrimp (I know that's not a shellfish but I put it in that category)... man was that a test of my poker face. thank god for butter and lemon juice.

Seaweed (kelp), Kidney, fermented butter oil, with the first being worst ...

Kidney definitely. Rabbit and lamb kidney is almost tolerable but I sTill have to fight it down if I catch a whiff of something "off" while chewing or swallowing.

Years ago a friend from Malaysia made some funky fermented fish curry that I had to literally fight every inch of my esophagus from fork to stomach.

I don't like cheap, canned black or green olives... But I will eat dozens of olive bar olives.

I don't care for fish... Really more of a "meh" than a "yuck" though.

Chicken is the ultimate "meh" food for me. It doesn't repulse me but I'd rather fast than eat it.

EGGPLANT.

The only veg I've found that I can't stand.

Liver.

Cooked mushrooms.

Fat (unless its crispy)

Worst of all: Beets

I can stomach everything else if I can just mix it to mask the nasty element--but beets flavor everything and their texture is revolting.

oysters, olives, and grapefruit. There used to be a bigger list, but over the years I've come to like most of everything. I don't think I'll ever like these last 3 things though.
