Does anyone know if the corn in chicken feed is genetically modified corn. I found a farm that feeds their chickens soy free meal. I know that chickens are adapted to eating seeds such as corn which is one of the basics in chicken feed. So that is OK but I was wondering what kind of corn they use.

Nearly all corn has GMO genes in it nowadays, even "organic" corn, albeit not intentionally. Genetic pollution has spread man-made genes extensively. There are studies showing that well off the beaten path in Mexico (the birthplace of corn) man-made genes are found in their heirloom varieties.

The question is if GMO corn is bad. I'm not convinced it's terrible, but it's something that's unnecessary.

Thanks, you can't always win. We just do the best that we can. – John Sorrentino Apr 22 2012 at 2:06
The question really becomes, do the toxins the BT bacteria produce harm humans, and if so in what ways? Then, does corn produce them exactly in the same way or differently? and did the industry create other GMO variants? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetically_modified_maize – raydawg Apr 22 2012 at 15:31
from that same page " Our analysis clearly reveals for the 3 GMOs new side effects linked with GM maize consumption, ... with the kidney and liver, the dietary detoxifying organs, although different between the 3 GMOs. Other effects were also noticed in the heart, adrenal glands, spleen and haematopoietic system. We conclude that these data highlight signs of hepatorenal toxicity, possibly due to the new pesticides specific to each GM corn. In addition, unintended direct or indirect metabolic consequences of the genetic modification cannot be excluded."[4] " – raydawg Apr 22 2012 at 15:34
So the next question is if chickens eat it, are they able to remove those toxins, or do they build up in their meat? – raydawg Apr 22 2012 at 15:35

It -can- be, they would have to read the feed bag or ask the feed store to verify.

If it's not organic corn, it's very likely to be GMO.

Unless you're buying chicken that is certified organic, most likely the corn is GM. Sucks, but it's the truth.
