It's not the answer to everything you know.
Hell, it technically only advertises itself as a cure for psychological disorders, not your other health problems.
You can't just have a bone broth juice fast and expect your life to fall into place!

If you are actually looking for a serious answer, and not just controversy here's why I like GAPS. I didn't know a thing about GAPS, but started making broth as a medium for salt because I seem to need to add a fair amount of it to feel good. Less than two weeks after adding broth every day, I went out for pizza with the family. Normally, that would result in ridiculous diarrhea, and a hangover feeling for 24-48 hours, but no such reaction occurred. I have to keep it up, or the cheats start to hurt again, but it is so worth it to be able to eat out at a restaurant and not go into what looks like an orthorexic fit just to order dinner. I did some research about diets that included broth and GAPS came up, I read up on it, and things seemed to make sense with the relief I was experiencing. I think it is popular in the PH community because a whole lot of us ended up here because of gut permeability issues and suffering from not necessarily full blown mental health disorders as a result, but I would wager many had symptoms like feeling extremely lethargic, fuzzy headed, or had difficulty concentrating after meals and those symptoms were helped by the diet. As far as random tweaks go, it doesn't seem like a weird one to try, at least not to me. And...you seem mad at my broth...why? It makes me feel really good. |

I love walking up to my GAPS friends and saying "HOWS THE CRAZY GOING, YOU KNOW YOU JUST EAT THIS TO BE NOT-CRAZY". They totally appreciate it, and it really stimulates a lot of productive, informative conversations! The best way to get an honest answer is to use just enough criticism to make people feel defensive. Another good way is to make blanket statement, that something either fixes something or does nothing, then wait for the exciting responses! It's always best to only accept that something is one of two extremes, you know? Either it does everything or nothing, otherwise what's the point! |

What's with all the attitude and the loaded question, complete with answer, criticising peoples choices. |

What I would like to add is that I just do not understand why people have to criticize others that are doing ultimately the same as they. GAPS, SCD, Paleo (and the numerous different approaches to Paleo), WAP... whatever you choose to call it - it is essentially the same. Personally I celebrate the differences and I am curious to read about other peoples experiences with something so similar to what I am doing. That all being said I have been on GAPS for 2,5 years - I am no less crazy than I was before, but physically I am doing much better, and my 8 year old daughter is officially not autistic anymore. I'm thrilled to see how fast this community is growing - and I am happy and proud to be a part of it. Go real food - all approaches... (!) |

When someone has debilitating digestive and/or mental functioning issues, and something like GAPS or SCD offers a tailored solution to that problem, he or she jumps on it. There may be a small percentage of people who think they should do GAPS simply to make sure their gut bacteria are in tip-top shape (which I think would be a complete misreading of what GAPS is for and ultimately a bad idea), but most people go on GAPS because they are desperate for answers to questions that few are talking about right now. |

GAPS is built on SCD, which addresses the whole range of GI issues (IBS, Crohn's, IBD, Celiac, etc), not just psychological disorders. I got into it because I figured it'd cure whatever was ailing me and it was more effective than getting a colonoscopy and being told I have IBS. |
