I've been doing paleo for about 2 months, and things are going well. I lost 7 of the 15 pounds I want to lose and am really enjoying my more healthy eating habits.

Suddenly, by breath became crazy offensive.

I'm clearly not in ketosis because of the qty. of fruit and some other carbs I'm eating.

I wish I could pinpoint the exact day it started, so I could try and think back and see what happened, but I can't put my finger on it.

So, I'll ask this difficult to answer question this way:

Other than ketosis, what might account for a sudden and unpleasant change in breath?

Could too much fat, fruit sugar, salt, acid beverages cause this?

I did notice white film on my tong which I mouth washed and scraped off.

Some recent dietary changes: started eating lots of kerry-gold pastured butter, started V8 (low sodium), started eating a lot of bananas (trying to boost my potassium), started eating more justins nut butters (the yummy almond + choc). I think I had sour cream on potato pancake while out (not usual) around the time it started (I think).

I do realize I'm not being very helpful, but any non-ketosis breath thoughts would be very much appreciated.

Thanks, Mike

In the Pacific NW, allergy season is in full swing. I get many more of these at this time of year. – psuedotsuga Apr 24 2012 at 4:50

Any chance you are having stomach issues? I know constipation can cause bad breath... other stomach issues might as well.

Thanks for responding. GI seems ok. Pretty regular 1x /day , occasionally 2x /day. – CaveMan_Mike Apr 23 2012 at 1:23

Too many hard boiled eggs give me really foul breath.

If it is in your mouth, try one round of oil pulling. Every once in a while I think I get tiny, tiny bits of meat stuck that floss and brushing don't get, but 20 minutes drawing the oil through my teeth leaves my breath coconutty fresh.

If you can't figure it out through process of elimination, it is really strong, and really weird go get a check up because certain illnesses and cancers can give you weird breath.

I suddenly got better.

Not sure if it was the tong scraping or something else.

I'll have to keep a better eye on the situation.

Thanks everyone for the emails. Definitely some good info to keep in the back of my mind!

Just because I hadn't seen it, I'll add this. It could be fructose intolerance/allergy. I'm given to understand that one method docs use for diagnosis is to smell the breath.

Glad you got better! ('She turned me into a newt!')
