I've been Paleo for about 12 months. Last Thursday I separated a rib(s) in a soccer match...more like a rugby match I'd say. I went to the ER just to make sure it wasn't anything worse. I'd take two sprained ankles and two broken fingers over any rib injury. Holy smokes does it hurt!

I've taken vicodin each night so I can sleep (sleeping in the Morris Chair, reclined a bit). I've noticed I've been "pudgy" and my toes and fingers much more "swollen" than normal. Has anyone noticed this with vicodin?

Thanks!

Meds in that class are known for fast water weight. I gained four lbs last time I had surgery and Percocet. Lost it all when I stopped. – January Apr 23 2012 at 21:59

I fractured my ribs once - it sucked. It only hurts when you breathe.

I had a love/hate relationship with the painkillers. I didn't like the side effects, but the pain was no joke. And even if I felt like I wanted to tough it out, you can't really do it with this type of injury, as you have to take a sufficient dose of painkiller so that you can breathe as deeply as normal. You don't want pneumonia on top of the the injury.

it's been 8 weeks now. I can now sleep in my bed horizontal. I couldn't for the first 5 weeks. I can actually do pushups and some pull ups (not 100% yet). Other than a little tenderness rolling over in bed here and there, I'm back doing just about EVERYTHING. Man it was bad. Two separated in front, and one dislocated then popped back in in the back. sheesh! – Craig Almaguer Jun 7 at 21:25
Glad to hear you're healing up! I didn't realize that I was responding to an older post. When I wrote it I purposely didn't say that it was a solid 6 weeks before I could even walk around like a normal person, and maybe 3 months before I was completely healed up. I didn't want to bum you out :) – melimel Jun 8 at 3:23

They also slow down GI motility.... So be prepared for abdominal bloating as well.

Ah, thought so! Thanks and I knew about GI. I've upped my coconut oil in the morn (with coffee - try it sometime) and that's helped on being regular.
