I know. Weird question.
I've noticed when I stick to eating healthy, farts rarely come, and when they do, they don't smell bad.
On the other hand, when I cheat or eat something with multiple ingredients I normally don't eat, farts come more often and smell bad.
Can anyone attest to this?
Should our farts smell bad if we take care of our bodies?
Bummer that I'm the guy asking this. :P lol
My husband used to have nuclear farts. Cadaver farts. Devil farts. Make-me-furious-in-the-movie- theater farts. Since paleo 2+ years: his farts are mellow, mild, and acceptable. :) Ting!
Oh, I agree, if you go off paleo -- look out! I get those wet, gurgling, borderline-illegal, farts that reverberate between my cheeks and leave a tobacco-like residue in my underwear. It's gotten to the point where my wife buys my underwear at Costco so she can toss the old ones in the garbage without having to scrub the stains off the old ones anymore. I cheated the other day and picked up some KFC on my drive home. My commute is 2+ hours, depending on traffic. About 20 miles from home, I began to squeeze out some farts that quite honestly had me concerned and even a little disoriented. The gas was becoming more frequent by the minute to the point where I had to roll down all of the windows. We live in Chicago, and let me tell you, during the winter, you don't roll those suckers down for nothing unless it's serious. About 4 hours after arriving home, my wife borrowed my car keys to go get us a pizza from down the street. Not 1 minute later, she came racing into the house screaming at me, accusing me of taking a shit in the car. She wasn't speaking figuratively. She actually thought I had managed to somehow use an empty Starbuck's coffee cup (which are littered throughout the car) and pull down my pants in traffic, and take a dump inside the cup and toss it out the window. WTF? Seriously? Okay, to be fair, I did that once years earlier before we got together and I blame food poisoning after scarfing down 3 Taco Bell macho burrito supremes. Again, stuck in gridlock traffic, what choice did I have? But I swear, I'm innocent of these charges. I didn't drop a load in a grande Starbuck's cup. Bedsides if it came down to that, it would require at least one vente cup because that's how I roll.
Your gas will only smell as good as the bacteria that make it. Keep your flora healthy, your gas will be "healthier". Changing your dietary composition (in any way, really), stress levels, or health status will change your bacterial flora.
My husband complains about the decrease in his farting opportunities. I however do not. Eggs=bad smelling farts. Wheat, sugar, dairy, + eggs=eye watering farts. My favorite post on here so far was someone asking about their "Raw Egg Farts".
Gas is directly proportional to the foods I eat. I used to have a guilty pleasure of drunken evenings followed by a complete gastrointestinal assault of several plates of "slider" hamburgers (i.e. White Castle/Krystal burgers). Which, if you've ever eaten them, are little gluten bombs (doughy dinner rolls) with about 1oz of "beef" and copious amounts of mustard and pickles (at least on the Krystals).
Foulness which could not be expressed by the most skilled of wordsmiths... Odor that could convince vultures to go vegan... lasting at least 72 hours. My wife referred to my office as "Krystal Burger Ground Zero" after one of these binges.
These days, I only get gas when my non-paleo family gets a severe stomach bug (I probably get it too, but my symptoms are less severe). Oh, and maybe one or two about 20 seconds before I realize it's bathroom time. I currently eat a lower carb paleo 1.0 with the addition of butter, based mostly on local grassfed beef.
Experiments with starchy tubers and rice resulted in a return of gas frequency, albeit not so foul. As long as I mind my beverages (drink cider or wine instead of beer) when out with friends, it stays that way... but introducing beer tends to have similar, foul effects.
Man, I love fart questions. Asked one myself once.
I get MUCH less gas when I'm strictly on meat and veggies paleo (no dairy, grains, legumes, fruit).
But I do get nasty gas if I eat too much protein, fat--or just eat too much, which is pretty easy for me to do (see below).
I have problems digesting fat especially and hence don't eat much of it--heavy feeling, gas ensues.
I suspect that: -I might not be high enough in stomach acid -some tooth pains means inadequate chewing (probable need of expensive root canal) -as a woman in my mid 40's my metabolism is either screwy or I just don't need much more than 1200 calories a day.
Oh--I also get gas from nightshades or avocado (poss due to fat).
That's more info than you wanted, but I think the blackout magic gas could likely be from a million factors.
I can attest to this also. Before paleo suufered IBS like symptoms; bloating, gas, cramps, urgency...etc. Since paleo I rarely have much gas and it doesn't smell like it used to pre-paleo. I think this is pretty common for most paleo people
I am still laughing at this post...but I do agree, I rarely fart stinky farts these days but my not so paleo-ish husband is dreadful. I can always tell when he is withholding info about what he has been eating because I always find out within a few hours anyway...geez!
I pray to god I'm not too late in here - and hope that others will be fartign so atrociously that it leads them to google 'is farting bad?'.
On low carb paleo i NEVER farted. Now I eat more starch, feel all the healthier for it, and my farting can be APPALLING. They smell like a horse pen. I just had liver and white rice - The raw stench of liver is being emitted from my ass on a minutely basis! I have liver with potato - not a squeak! I have rice and eggs - nada! I think some foods are incompatible with others. But Parsnips make the whole house tremble.
