Hi I've been doing paleo for a while and I haven't lost to much weight yet. And I'm not fat I'm pretty normal but I still want to improve. I was wondering how long it takes for some one to start to look improved? And if you occasionally eat a dessert with sugar, will that take you backwards? Also is dark chocolate paleo? Is it ok to occasionally have some dark chocolate?

Yes, most people here seem to find 85% or higher dark chocolate acceptable and beneficial. |

Get some good 99% dark chocolate and be done with it (still eat it in moderation, even though it has a very low sugar content). Cost Plus has a great 99% dark chocolate (I buy entire boxes of it at a time, the wife and I love it). And for those that don't think a person could eat dark chocolate and lean out, wrong! Lol! I'm down 40+ lbs and the wife down closer to 50lbs (and steadily losing). Started Paleo/Primal eating February '12. |

Choose only 85%-90%-99%. The 2best choice is dark chocolate with hazelnut for me even if it has got more sugar, take the bar with regular ingredients: mass cocoa, cocoa powder, sugar (don't worry about this 2-3 grams per serving), and soy lecithin (unfortunately). I also use much more "raw cocoa powder" or "beans" on fresh fruit, baked apples and pear, into my morning organic milk shake. If you don't have any problems with this wonderful superfood, eat it! Enjoy with light-heartedness because it's a present from ancient gods! |

Try mixing two tablespoons organic cocoa powder with hot water made like hot cocoa. It's very good, kind of like a cross between coffee and hot cocoa. A friend of mine adds Truvia to her drink but I've gotten myself away from sweeteners and don't want to get back into that habit. I learned of this Cocoa Drink from Metabolic Effect and it really does help reduce cravings and give you the feeling that you had something yummy! |

Sugary foods are my #1 avoidance when I'm interested in leaning out. Not only do I feel worse, I can see negative progress in the mirror. If you're strict the rest of the time, you can get by, but it does nothing but slow your progress. The speed at which you'll see results varies based on how lean you are now and how your diet is structured. |
