I can't imagine paleo man shaved regularly, if at all. Shaving is a bit of a hassle, but girls seem to love smooth skin.
If you shave, do you shave in a more paleo (e.g. straight razor) way?

I've had beard for about a year, and I've been paleo for a bit less than that. I will say my hair seems to grow faster and thicker. At first it was a bit scratchy but you adapt. My wife loves my beard, BTW. "The beard is the handsomeness of the face, and a wife is the joy in a man's heart." - R' Akiva, Eicha Rabbah |

I had a full beard going for a couple years before going Paleo. Still have it, and I have no plan to shave it off; I just keep it shaved from a finger's width above the adam's apple down, and get it trimmed to civilized-looking lengths in deference to my office work environment. I think that there's probably some evolutionary reason for men having beards and women being smooth-faced. Perhaps a well-developed beard signals that its wearer is a healthy adult male, making him more attractive to women who haven't been culturally conditioned to find shaved faces attractive? This actually raises the question of why shaving arose in the first place... but then again considering the things some women do to themselves in the name of beauty maybe that's just a dumb question. Humans will do pretty much anything to attract mates. |

I do shave a lot less today then I did when I was not primal. I never really enjoyed shaving and like my "look" better anyways... I clip when necessary and shave when I feel like it. |

I hate shaving, so I do it as little as possible. I only shave the neck area with any regularity. Here's an application of paleo-ish knowledge: coconut oil and lard both make for a fabulous pre-shave balm! Another one would be not to use soaps or aftershave. |

I have not changed my shaving habits. I'm not caveman LARPing. EDIT: That said, my skin would not survive every-day shaving! |

I've had long hair for years, and have not had a haircut that I paid for since 1997. I just bring the end o my hair around to where I can see it, then cut off the split ends with a sharp rock.. umm, I mean scissors. My facial hair looks best as a goatee, and now that winter is incoming, it might be making a comeback. |

I did once grow my facial hair out for 9 weeks, and it looked ridiculous. In my personal opinion, most bearded men would look a whole lot better if they shaved. |

I gave up shaving when I started to eat Paleo. I use my beard to store pork and duck drippings for future fuel on the long hunts. Beats tupperware although I could use a finer comb with an attached handy wipe. |

I shave once a week, not because of paleo but because I'm so busy... I DO more now coupled with my facial hair growing at least twice as fast means I'm often scruffy ... I call it rugged.. I hope |

What's going on here? Can we get some representation for beards? I've had one 90% of the time for the last six years. I've only been paleo for a year, so the beard is pretty much independent of that. But somehow I expected that all the other paleos out there would be letting it grow as soon as they converted. Needless to say I am very disappointed in all of you. [Trying to sound half-ironic, by the way.] |

No, I still shave. I like the way Paleo-men ate...not how they looked. |

I have found my facial hair growing much faster since going paleo - but I still just shave the 1x per day. I wonder if eating healthier and avoiding the phytoestrogens or other estradiol impacting factors (e.g. soy) have led to a higher testosterone and DHT level? |

Mmmmmm.....Don't shave much about once evey 2 weeks & even then only top lip & neck. Hardly get my hair cut (or wash it much for that matter!). However, I do use hair removal cream once a week for BSC! So I'm a caveman with a smooth chest. |

No shaving of haircut ever =
I'll stick with shaving for now :) I find having a beard is ichy and annoying. Also shaving is easier when you have clear skin. |

I happen to shave a lot less frequently these days, but I think it's more a factor of me working in a casual environment (where I can even wear my Vibrams daily) and having a newborn at home. But of course when I do shave, I use a paleo-approved non-packaged straight razor :) |

I don't have to less, but I tend to shave allot less regardless, just use clippers, no razor. |
