This winter I was running on a diet rich in eggs (30/week) adn butter () 0.4kg/week. For me that caused high cholesterol (numbers here http://paleohacks.com/questions/109204/ldl-cholesterol-doubled-from-pre-paleo#axzz1tJ4wRMD1). During this period I experienced none of the seasonal colds and flues which I did have the winters before.

3weeks after I halved eggs and stopped using butted the colds andflues are back with full force.

Could there be link or is it a coincidence?

correlation does not equal causation. But it is an interesting thought. – ancestral_stars Apr 29 2012 at 4:47

Is it the only thing you changed in your diet and lifestyle?

I noticed too that my colds were gone since I eat lots of eggs, fish & some meat, so I'm also interested in the exact reasons for it, although for me my whole health went up since I went Paleo. Also the throwing out of my teflon-coated frying pans helped my occasional nose sniffing go away.

If you guess it is only the butter & eggs you've changed, try to add more eggs for a few weeks to see if it changes anything, then you can make a theory out of your practice :)

2 great Jaminet posts: It seems that cholesterol binds to many pathogens. HDL and LDL defend from infections and pathogens destroy HDL/LDL - so people who are really sick from pathogenic diseases have cholesterol that plummets.

I have also read recent abstracts/articles on the benefits of high cholesterol--or the higher mortality of low cholesterol.

My n=1, though, is that my cholesterol of 178 and I have made it through the past year with no acute/infectious illness. In my early months of unprocessed food I had 2 neo-binges and was sick both times but otherwise I've been healthy and high energy.
