Last week, while once again idly indulging my fantasy of having Kurt Harris over for dinner, it occurred to me that there could be a good idea in this with general relevance. Here's the thought. If you eat paleo and you're in another city, it's harder to eat the way you really want to eat. If you don't have a kitchen, you're usually restricted to finding restaurants where you can approximate the paleo ideal. This might be fine for a day or two, but after three or four days you'll probably be feeling the negative effects.
So ... why not set up a network of paleos across the U.S. (or world) who are willing to offer hot paleo meals to out-of-towners? I am thinking something along the lines of couchsurfing.org: you would have an online profile, and maybe you'd get karma points (perhaps an oxymoron) for making a meal that you could use to get a meal. As for security, I know that this is generally not an issue with couchsurfing.org; there might be some difficulty in the inception phase of our site, but maybe you could have your paleo meal sharing username linked to a paleohacks username, or something like that. And you could specify whether you were lacto-paleo, whether you had any specific allergies, how much fat you eat ... etc. It just seems like a network of like-minded people could be very helpful -- after all you can't bring your farmers market and your kitchen with you when you go out of town.
Any thoughts on this? Anyone have the urge to set something up like this? (Of course if you need to make some money off of it for your time I don't want any of it, and anyhow I doubt I'm the first to have the idea.) Perhaps it can be linked to another, existing paleo site? If something like this exists, or if you've seen discussion of this, please let me know and I'll be sufficiently embarrassed. One thought I had is that if you were visiting another town you could check out their local meet-up group and see if they were having an event. But that only happens so often ...
