I know raw frozen yogurt and ice cream can stay months in the freezer, but as my father doesn't want to drive that frequently to the farm (far away from him) he was wondering how long it can stay in the freezer. I know some of the probiotics will lie dormant while frozen and then reawaken upon thawing. Would he be able to keep milk 1, 2, 3 months in the freezer? Thanks.

In terms of taste, I'm not keen on anything that has been frozen beyond six months. However, foods that have been vacuum packed are a lot less affected by long term freezing. Also, frost-free freezers, with their heated defrost cycles, are harder on frozen foods. |

I keep my raw milk frozen for up to two months. The fresh milk tastes better and has a better texture, but I find the difference in the week frozen milk to be similar to the month frozen milk. The frozen milk is less emulsified, for lack of a better term. And, the type of freezer makes a difference. I only have a top freezer to my fridge with a door that doesnt like to stay shut. A manual defrost chest freezer would have better results. |

I have kept raw goat's milk in the freezer for up to 6 months. That said, I use the frozen stuff to make soap with only. It just doesn't taste right after thawing, even using an immersion blender and even if it is only 3 or 4 months old. I raise dairy goats and when my goats are dry (when they get bred in the fall), I jsut buy a little organic milk for my coffee. |
