For years I have had spots on my palms and fingers. There are maybe two dozen per hand with none of them occurring on the back of my hands. They are less pronounced than a braille dot and have no more or less color than the rest of my skin. They do not itch or bother me in any way other than I know they shouldn't be there. One visit to a dermatologist several years ago proved to be no help. Any thoughts on what is is? Virus? Bacteria? I guess I should mention I also have plantar warts on the soles of my feet.

It is likely the same wart virus that causes the plantar warts on your feet, they are called flat warts. I had the same thing, plus a bunch on my legs (due to some non-consensual razor sharing) from my early 20's until it spontaneously cleared up in my mid-30's. It is contagious, but not wildy contagious, I got mine from my roommate's crusty punk boyfriend who repeatedly used my razor to shave his head which had lots of warts, and didn't fess up until I started complaining about dull razors. |

Are you actually a paraplegic as your name suggests? If so, could they just be little blisters on your hands from wheeling around in your chair? I hope that's the case and it's nothing serious. Or, maybe you're getting a little reaction to something on the wheels (the rubber itself or something you've run over)? Just guessing really, but I hope it helps you at least narrow some things out. |

I can't provide a solution, but I can let you know you're not alone in having weird hand spots/blisters/bumps. Mine are mostly on my fingers (not palms) and they are worst in the winter, when my whole fingers will become swollen and the spots get sore like blisters. A visit to the doctor and a blood test revealed nothing. The only thing that helps is wearing gloves every time I venture outside in winter, and always washing my hands in warm water, and generally keeping them warm as much as possible. I've spent many many hours searching the internet for answers, all I've found is other people with similar conditions. I did have a lead on a name for it, which escapes me now, but it still didn't lead me to any answers, either why it happens or how to 'cure' it. Mainly I concluded it is a virus that my body is trying to kill (but never does) and something to do with circulation (since keeping my hands warm helps). Where I live we are approaching the first winter that I've been Paleo, so I'm eagerly waiting to see if my diet has improved the condition. |

I think that I have something similar. Periodically, I get little bumps on my fingers, sometimes palms of my hands, and once on my toes. Have had it since age 11. It only occurs when I'm under stress of some kind (emotional, moving, giving birth, etc.) I believe it's some kind of viral infection due to the repeatedly localized area of infection. Over the years it has become less frequent and with less involvement. Come to think of it, I had one bump on my index finger a few weeks ago...probably from stress of traveling (spent two months in CA and came back to IA :-S). Anyway, AFAIK it isn't contagious and it's usually resolved within a week or so. When I was younger, I was given some triaminosolone cream but it didn't help. Now, I just usually wait it out since it isn't painful. It can be annoying if there are a lot and they are in the joints of the fingers, though. Probably not connected to your plantar warts. Hope this helps. |
