Started the leptin reset today. As I live in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, I'm not so familiar with the foods you guys use. It's hard to find grass fed beef here and a lot of brands of other foods I often see mentioned here, I don't have access to.
I'm a female, 5,4ft, 117lbs, and the reason I start the leptin reset is that I suffer from nocturnal sleep related eating disorder. I already managed to get my weight down but I still wake up at night finding myself with my head in the cupboards eating whatever's around. Tried locking food away, storing it in the freezer but even then I'll end up eating it whilst asleep.
What I ate today for breakfast was 200g (i.e. 7oz) of smoked salmon, 3 eggs, fried in 1T coconut oil. That should do it as a BAB, doesn't it? It was a helluvalot though and I wondered if I didn't overdo it on the salmon....
Hey maria anna/rene, i'm also a dutchy; you should check out facebook group "paleo nederland" there is a lot of discussion there you might like.
Also, for some good beef try ordering some scottish highlanders meat directly from a farmer (i get mine from www.berens-edelvlees.nl). These type of cows are out in the field all year long, and are particular, will only eat grass and small plants, so the meat is guaranteed to be "grassfed". But if you do get your meat from the AH, don't sweat it because it's still much healthier than what is allowed in north america.
Hi Maria Anna, Zoetermeer calling in!
Your breakfast sounds absolutely delicious, and good. A few remarks:
For the safest meat find a "bio-supermarkt", it's expensive, but a real treat to eat. Treat yourself once in a while. Also please take into account that a lot of the stuff that Standard American Beef is filled with, would, under Dutch and EU regulations, not be allowed within 2.8 miles of a farm in Holland, and would get the farmer institutionalized immediately if he dared to utter the name. Don't go more Roman-catholic than the pope in selecting your produce ;)
Most salmon on offer in Dutch supermarkets is farmed, even if the label says wild. True wild, wild salmon does indeed cost a fortune in Holland, and tastes phenomenal. Especially if you have a good, and woody white wine at the right temperature. I digress. Don't go overboard there, and don't forget we have a very active fishing industry: smoked mackerel, kippers, and such are relatively cheap. I maybe out of the loop, but I haven't heard about farmed mackerel yet...
Do some research on the different -non-government endorsed- Eco-labels, to see what they entail. Some just mean that the animal in question has seen a photocopy of a picture of a blade of grass. Seconds before slaughter. Others are quite good and do imply "grass fed"
Also, having been on Paleo for a couple of months now, I in fact have noticed my shopping bill going down: no more take away, ordering pizza, or hurrying to the store to buy something you forgot and coming back with a mass of junk food. My fridge is always full of fresh produce, which is awesome in itself!
If I can help, just give me a shout!
