Okay, I hope someone has a quicky answer to this! I recently ordered the Green Pasture - Blue Ice Royal - Butter Oil/Fermented Cod Liver Oil Blend in Cinnamon Tingle Gel form. A serving size is 1/2 teaspoon, but I'm wondering how much I should take with my being pregnant and all. 1/2 teaspoon doesn't seem that much, but I'm hoping someone here with experience can provide a definitive answer. :) Thanks!

My wife took a 1/2 teaspoon every day of her pregnancy and continues to take it while breastfeeding. Our boy is perfectly healthy. In fact, almost everyone comments on how strong and solid he is. He looks like a little linebacker. That's our N=1. |

My opinion is a teaspoon every few days is good, I don't regiment it as much as I do other things like liver (once per week). |

According to a WAPF board member, the new updated amounts are 2/3rds of a tsp of the fermented cod liver oil per day for pregnant women. This hasnt been updated elsewhere, so treat with caution. http://www.thehealthyhomeeconomist.com/why-eating-organic-will-never-make-you-healthy/ (in the second comment). |

Agree with Amanda re: dosage. Honestly, if you eat liver 2 x a week, you can get your folate, iron AND Vitamin A from a whole food instead of taking CLO. And don't depend on any CLO for your Vitamin D3. It doesn't have enough D3 for most women at the safe doses. I recommend getting your D3 level tested both in the 1st trimester & the beginning of the third. Aim for a blood level of 50-60 ng/ml. I like Carlson's Solar D gems if you need to supplement. Also make sure you are getting sufficient Magnesium and K2. |

The mix is only 1/2 cod liver oil, so a full teaspoon is still conservative. One nice aspect of the mix is that it's a gel at refrigerator temp. With proper technique there's no need to taste the product. |

Vitamin A in large amounts is not recommended during early pregnancy - I'd stick to a very small amount, or take fish oil, rather than codliver oil |
